The Deadpool R-rating debate has become fervent since the adult classification was announced. One of the biggest talking points has centered around a pro PG-13 petition, launched on behalf of a mother on behalf of her son.
Well, The Petition Has Received Significant Backlash
So, after a special New York City fan screening of the movie, Ryan Reynolds leapt to the defense of Christina, the mother of 8-year-old Matthew whose letter sparked the debate for a censored version.
Deadpool Himself Thinks Christina Is "Awesome"
A lot of the passion and excitement for the film's release has become wrapped up in a debate on whether children should have access to such an x-rated character. Reynolds feels that Christina was doing the right thing. He said:
"People are ragging on her – I think that’s an awesome mom. When I was 8 years old, I wanted to see 9 ½ Weeks, but my mom didn’t make a petition!”
Just to recap — 9 1/2 weeks was the sexually charged erotic drama starring Mickey Rourke, which includes some seriously raunchy scenes that Wade Wilson himself would probably quite enjoy...
Does This Mean Reynolds Supports The PG-13 Version?
Well... No. Although Reynolds has defended Christina's viewpoint, he still doesn't feel that a PG-13 rating would be suitable. He added:
"I don’t think so. I mean, you saw it. That would be a very short movie. It’s almost a commercial at that point.”
And he has a point. Judging from the red band trailer (below) and early reviews, the movie is brimming with swearwords, violence, and sex. Without it, we'd be left with almost nothing.
