After an emotional week of Friends reunion hearsay, it's time to finally let the whole idea of Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler, and Monica appearing together again RIP.
Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman has crushed the hearts of millions by revealing that there will never, ever be a Friends reunion.
The tribute to James Burrows due to air Sunday, February 21, will see the Friends cast come together to honor the legendary sitcom director they all had the pleasure of working with for so many years.
News of the show had everyone convinced that Friends would be back in character to fill us in on the no doubt hilarious happenings of the last decade, unfortunately that is not the case.
While promoting her new Netflix series Grace and Frankie at the 2016 TCA winter press tour, Kauffman explained:
"There will never be a Friends reunion movie. Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there's no need anymore."
“We can’t go back to that time in our lives. And I’d rather have people’s memory of that be really wonderful than people going, ‘Oh, he doesn’t look good.’ That would be bad … And let’s be honest. Reunions generally suck.”
As hard as it is to swallow, Kauffman is probably right. Our expectations of a new Friends episode or movie would likely be so high that we would ultimately be disappointed with the result. And we don't want that.
So let's just be happy and remember...
