Disney and Lucasfilm announced something bittersweet today. Star Wars Episode VIII will now move it's release date from originally May 2017 to December 15th 2017.

Originally I knew this would happen and I think it's the right move. I was a little skeptical that the film would be cranked out within a year and 5 months. It makes me sad for selfish reasons, but this is a bit of a breather. Now there is a full 2 years of development and I think ultimately it benefits the production and the value of it.

One other reason I believe they moved the date is simple. BOX OFFICE REVENUE. Episode VII while not being the biggest movie of all time, shattered plenty of box office records during it's theatrical run so running the sequel in December again makes total sense. There's not alot of competition during December so there's more money opportunities than competing during the season of blockbusters which begins in May of every year.

Although there actually is at least one contender in december of 2017 and to me it will feel like the fight of the century. Avatar 2 is scheduled to premiere christmas day of 2017. I then go back to wondering why Lucasfilm and Disney decided to delay Episode VIII to that time frame. One thing is for certain....if Avatar has the guts to stay on schedule and the film is released on christmas day, then we have a match that sounds better than a Mayweather and Pacquiao fight!

No official announment on the reason for the pushed release date but it may have reasons for rewrites on the script as originally rumored, Filming is scheduled to start production this feburary but the official release date for this film will now be December of 2017, so stay tuned for updates!

What do you guys think? Are you happy, sad, or don't care? Do you think Star Wars Episode VIII can reign over Avatar? Whatever you think, comment below!
