Barry goes to stop Turtle from stealing the Vandervoort Diamonds at the CCPD but is affected as well. The team tries to find out how to use the ability to slow down Zoom.Patty talks to Barry and he tells her that the reason why he has been distant is because his mom's death was around the New Years. He makes plans for them to go out the next night so they can talk. The dinner the West's planned for Wally doesn't go through when doesn't show up, upsetting Joe. Iris tells Barry that she talked with Patty and tells him to tell her about the Flash. The team plans to take out Turtle at the Crystal Ball event being held at the Central City Museum. Barry asks Patty to go and then tells the team he is going to tell her everything. Harry warns him not to do so because Zoom will take the people he cares about away from him. The team goes to the art exhibit where they wait for Turtle to strike. While doing surveillance from the van, Harry tells Cisco why he came up with the name for Zoom. Two years ago on Earth 2 Zoom set a trap to prove his power which resulted in 14 people being slaughtered. One of the surviving officers described the assailant as blue lighting "zooming" by. Cisco offers to vibe for Harry so that he can know whether his daughter is safe. Patty shows up and Barry begins to tell her the truth when Turtle shows up. Back at the CCPD, Patty tells Barry she is leaving for Midway City University for a CSI program she was accepted into. Her reason is that she has already caught the person who had killed her father and that it was time to move forward. She kisses him goodbye, leaving Barry heartbroken. Harry records a entry into his virtual journal and talks about a time he lost his daughter. He kills Turtle to find out more about his ability to use to steal speed. The Reverse Flash returns, but does not seem to know where he is.
No shortage of awesomeness in this episode. Though his name doesn't exactly seem threatening, "Turtle" was a pretty formidable villain. Here are some notable scenes.
Russell Glossen/Turtle: A meta who has the ability to slow down the kinetic energy of things around him giving it the impression of him moving at superspeed. He steals items from people that they whole dear to make up for his wife Rosalind leaving him. He may hold the key for Team Flash to being able to stop Zoom.
Wally West: Joe's estranges son adn Iris's half brother. When we first meet him , he seems like a shy kid. However, he shows himself to be distant and a bit disrespectful towards Joe. He engages in street races to pay for Francine's hospital bills.
Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash: The villain of the first season, but not quite. This means that Eddie is alive on another Earth and somehow Eoabard has still become Reverse Flash. His origin is a bit different, so we will have to see how he came to be.
Team Flash- The team is back and this time they are joined by Jay. It's about time he come out of his little hole to help the them stop the infamous "Turtle". Everybody is still working to find a way to stop Zoom and thanks to Cisco and the Turtle, Harry is closer to getting his daughter back, Barry can redeem himself from that ass whooping and Jay can finally get back to his time.. Will Harry use it to steal Barry's speed, or will he take a chance and use it on Zoom? They did great this episode though and they saved Patty.
Barry and Patty- They had such a great thing going. What happened?! This is what happens when you don't just come right and say what's really on your mind. Four words Barry, four words is all you needed to say! "I am the Flash". Boom, she would have probably stayed. Things were looking up for them, then they just totally tore it down in the end. For being the fastest man alive Barry was pretty slow on the delivery and look what happened. Let this be a lesson to you superheros our there. No matter how much you try to hide your secret from those you care about, they will always be in danger. It's better to let them know so they can better adjust to that life you lead. Either that or you can just be alone.
Barry and Iris- Iris has been surprising is lately. She's up to date with what Team Flash is doing and helped Barry out with his love life while trying to keep her family back together. Too bad Barry couldn't do what she suggested in time.
Barry and Joe- Joe was getting the worst of Wally's attitude this episode, so in comes Barry to the rescue. Reminding him that he is the best father in the world and that in due time Wally will come around.
Barry and Harry- Harry told Barry to not tell Patty his ability to keep her from getting hurt. His daughter is still being held captive by Zoom and I guess he cares enough about Barry to warn him.
West Family- When Wally came around, he seemed to want to get to know his family. However, he showed another side this episode and it was pretty uncalled for. Teen angst much. No one stands Joe up! NO ONE! Looks like they broke the barrier towards the end though.
Patty and Iris- Iris was sort of in Patty's position in the first season, but she wasn't Barry's girlfriend. Barry thought it was uncool for her to talk to Patty, but she was just trying to help him out.
Caitlin and Jay- These two are adorable. It sucks that Jay didn't tell her about his sickness and it sucks even more that they didn't tell us. Looks like Caitlin is about to do everything in her power so that she doesn't loose another loved one. A couple drinks out of beakers together, stays together. Up until the other one has to go back to his world cause story.
Cisco and Harry- They are the most unlikely pair to offer the comedic relief on this show. Their personalities clash, but out comes this beautiful thing. Cisco may call Harry a dick and Harry may have called him Crisco, but in the end these two are best friends. They won't admit it though.
TMNT- The 30 something year old not a Ninja Turtle. Like Cisco said, he is amazing. There were a few other references in there courtesy of Cisco.
New 52- Intake 52. You didn't think we would catch that now did ya Flash writers! Mwahaha. Had to fill that quota.
Wally's Car- Look at the colors of the muscle car he was driving. He has no idea what is in store for him. He has the need for speed, so it is fitting.
Midway City- Is the home of. Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Hawkman was the curator of Midway City Museum. It is also the home of the superhero team Doom Patrol. And the division of Science Police from the 21st, 30th, and 31st century are based there.
Martin Naydel- He was the creator of the The Terrific Whatzit (real name Merton McSnurtle, also known as McSnurtle the Turtle) who is a funny animal superhero who appears in stories published by DC Comics. McSnurtle possessed super-speed powers similar to those of the Golden Age Flash. These powers, while primarily based on superspeed, also include some superstrength (enough to bend a tank muzzle and the ability to fly. McSnurtle also gains a ghost-like "automatic conscience" who won't relent until he goes into action against the threat of the story. This seemed pretty fitting for this episode.
What's to Come/Theories:
Patty is leaving, the Reverse Flash has come back and Harry turns out to be just as cold as Wells face wearing Eobard from Earth One. Everything seems to be falling apart for Barry once again. On top of that, Zoom is just waiting for the right time to strike and judging from the beating Barry got from Turtle, he's obviously not ready. Hopefully we do see Patty again and hopefully we see some more progress in Barry's abilities. Wally and Joe look like they have finally broken the ice, but it could take a while for them to really call each other family. Still waiting on the day he gets turned into a speedster, but there is no rush. Jay is sick with something, but we haven't been told what it is. Harry is still struggling to do the right thing and to save his daughter, so it's so of understandable as to why he's been moody. It looks like Cisco is the only who doesn't seem to have a problem and let's hope it stays that way. A lot is on the line for Team Flash and it looks like the only way for things to go back to their definition of normal, is to kill Zoom. We also are waiting on the reveal as to who he is and to see other Earth 2 characters. Deathstorm and Killer Frost? Yes please.
The winter premiere of The Flash was a solid one. Another awesome entry in our DC filled week that had an interesting story filled with twists and turns. The heartbreak was strong in this one and I guess that is the formula of the week for these shows. The Turtle proved to be a pretty worthy adversary and could be the key to stopping Zoom, but we will have to see. Hopefully Legends of Tomorrow brightens up these Darhk times we are about to go through. This episode gets 9.6 cosmic treadmills out of 10. What did you guys think of "Potential Energy"? Leave in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
The Flash season 2 continues Tuesdays on The CW.
