There's less than two months to go now until the official release date of Season 2 of Netflix's flagship Marvel superhero show Daredevil, and we couldn't be more excited to see what round two has in store for Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock this time around.

One of the high points - the introduction of Frank Castle / the Punisher (Jon Benthal) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe aside - will be the first appearance of Greek assassin Elektra Natchios, a long time love interest and sometime antagonist of the leather clad superhero, portrayed by Elodie Yung.

Though his relationship with Elektra was alluded to briefly during Daredevil Season 1 we still don't know much about how exactly the beautiful assassin will fit into the back story of our MCU Matt Murdock, but what we've heard and seen so far makes it sound like it's going to stick pretty closely to their comic book origin.

Elektra In Marvel Comics

In the comics the two star crossed lovers first met at university and started a relationship; and once they fell in love Matt revealed his superhuman senses to her. However, following the accidental death of her father at the hands of a policeman, Elektra left America to train in martial arts with Stick (who we saw portayed by Scott Glenn in Daredevil Season 1) in Japan.

But Elektra was consumed by hatred for those she blamed for her father's death, and Stick eventually asked her to leave The Chaste as he believed she couldn't control her anger. She left and became part of the Hand - assassins for hire - for a while, sporting a and sporting a pretty inconceivable outfit. She left the Hand eventually to do some assassin freelancing and eventually came into conflict with Daredevil/Matt when Kingpin (portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio in Daredevil) hired her to kill the masked crusader.

Jeph Loeb Drops A Hint

Comic book legend and Daredevil Season 2 Executive Producer Jeph Loeb dropped a little hint about how the Daredevil / Elektra relationship is going to unfold in Season 2, and it's all tied up with Matt's special gift.

So we all know that Matt is able to become Daredevil because of his carefully honed superhuman hearing "6th sense" that he received as a trade off for losing his sight in his youth.

Not only is he able to navigate as though he can see and hear the cries of people several blocks away but he also functions as a human lie detector, which comes in handy when your alter-ego is a lawyer. We saw this in the very first episode of Season 1, where Matt can tell that Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) is lying about having a copy of the Union Allied file from listening to her heartbeat.

So Loeb has revealed that Matt Murdock wont actually be able to use this ability of his on Elektra herself, as his personal affection towards her hinders his reading of her:

"I think one of the things that’s dynamic about Elodie’s performance is that you never quite know if Elektra’s telling you the truth. Matt, who has this sort of ability to be a human lie detector, because he’s emotionally attached to her, it skews his ability to be able to know whether or not she’s telling the truth or he’s being manipulated, or is she actually not manipulating him? That kind of interaction, and I think the natural emotion that was going on between Charlie and Elodie that we captured on film, added a great deal of spark to it."

So not only will Elektra be able to physically challenge Daredevil with her ninja assassin skills, she'll also be able to outwit Matt Murdock with her ability to manipulate his emotions and skew his reading of her.

All in all it sounds like she's shaping up to be a pretty formidable opponent - and one hell of a love interest - when Daredevil Season 2 returns.

Daredevil Season 2 will premiere all episodes on March 18, 2016 worldwide via Netflix.
