As many of us are forsaking our true love, pizza, for more pure and wholesome food sources this January, it can be hard to find celebrity inspiration among the realms of aggressive fad diets and superficial, vanity driven goals.

Sure, a lot of us would enjoy the added confidence of losing a few pounds, but there are a wealth of other reasons to persevere with the lifestyle changes needed to live a healthier lifestyle and below are a few stars who are losing weight for all the right reasons.

Melissa McCarthy - To Be a Good Example for Her Children

Quote: Although McCarthy has been private about her inspirational weight loss, a friend close to the comic actress told Shape magazine that:

"Melissa knows that fans love her big and beautiful, and she’s not obsessed with dieting; she’s looking for a happy medium. She realized she wasn’t being as healthy as she could be. She wants to set a good example for her kids and wants to be around to become a grandmother too."

And, it's clear to see the results that happy medium has yielded over the past few years. Check out McCarthy's red carpet transformation HERE.

Zach Galifianakis - Changing His Unhealthy Attitude to Alcohol

Quote: Galifianakis's weight loss is the side effect of him reevaluating his attitude to alcohol, partly thanks to becoming a father, the funnyman explained:

"I stopped drinking and I just kind of put the weight off… I was having a lot of vodka with sausage… delicious but bad for you. I was getting into too much trouble with the drinking, so I just kind of stopped."

Depressingly, alcohol is one of the most fattening substances out there with 7.1 calories per gram so it totally makes sense that altering your bad boozing habits can change your waist line.

Christina Aguilera - For a Sense of Well Being and to Explore New Things

Quote: Christina Aguilera has yo yo dieted a lot through the years, but the singer seems to have finally found some balance in her weight loss journey.

"I've been through my highs, I've been through my lows. Being too thin. Being bigger. I've been criticized for being on both sides of the scale. It's amazing what having some personal time can do, not only for the body but also for the mind and the spirit."

Jonah Hill - To Take Responsibility and Feel Like a Real Adult

Quote: Although Jonah Hill has put on a lot of weight since he was at his thinnest thanks to his role in Arms And The Dudes, the star seems to have his thinking and motivation down and we are sure he will manage to become healthier again in the future.

"I just had a moment in my life where I said I wanted to become a man. And that means with my career that with my life, that means with my health."

Rosie O'Donnell - To Have a Longer Life

Quote: After having a heart attack, O'Donnell was shocked into losing weight so she could enjoy a longer life with her family. She underwent weight loss surgery to kickstart her progress and when asked about her decision, O'Donnell said:

"It can save your life, it’s a last chance thing. It’s a tool, it’s not an answer. You can’t just get surgery and go ‘I’m done.' You have to change the way you eat, you have to exercise."

Chris Pratt - Learned His Lesson from Past Unhealthy Weight Loss

Quote: Chris Pratt lost a lot of weight for movie roles, but he also learned from the mistakes he made in the past how to make meaningful changes to his life without punishing himself or hurting his body, he explained:

"I was like, 'I'm going to cut weight, put on plastics, run and I'm not going to eat,' that's what I did, but I didn't realize how that affects your body long-term, so that the minute you stop doing that you balloon your weight back up. I was doing 500 push-ups a day, working out at the gym, running five miles a day, but with no food, and I tore my body apart. I felt terrible afterwards, had to get shoulder surgery, and I wore myself down doing that because I didn't have the proper coaching."

After this terrible weight loss experience, Pratt was determined to do a healthier job for Guardians of the Galaxy and his next regime was much, much more health conscious, the actor explained:

"I actually lost weight by eating more food, but eating the right food, eating healthy foods and so when I was done with the movie my body hadn't been in starvation mode. It wasn't like I was triggered to just gorge myself and get really fat again."

Jennifer Hudson - To Safeguard Her Health For the Future

Quote: Jennifer Hudson is famous for losing a colossal amount of weight and making the lifestyle changes needed to keep it off for good, and she maintains she has always thought about her health as opposed to pounds lost for motivation. The Dream Girls star explained:

"I look at it by age. I feel like I gained 10 years of my life back."

John Goodman - Hitting Rock Bottom and Never Wanting to Go Back There Again

Quote: John Goodman claims he once used to weigh 400lbs and it was fear of ever being this unhealthy again that drove his weight loss journey. Mackie Shilstone, Goodman's health coach, explained his client's motivation for weight loss when he told People magazine that:

"He remembers what it feels like to be extremely heavy and it's something he doesn't want again."
