Vixen is an online animated mini-series which has been running since August on CW Seed. With only 5 minute episodes — hence, "mini-series," Vixen is far-removed from its parent shows, Arrow and The Flash, yet it manages to keep the tone projected in these hit CW programs.
In addition to including heroes such as The Green Arrow and The Flash — with their real CW actors voicing the characters, the series also boasts CW bigwigs Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg. Vixen has gained some seriously positive press, but the ever-optimistic CW producers have now decided that Arrow needs a splash of Vixen.
Just as Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Emily Bett Rickards and Carlos Valdes have voiced their animated counterparts on Vixen, it now seems that the role of Vixen, a.k.a. Mari McCabe, in CW's Arrow will be given to Vixen star Megalyn Echikunwoke. Still following? Good!
But who is Vixen?
Vixen is the vigilante alter-ego of Mari McCabe, an amateur fashion designer and former orphan... because you just can't become a superhero without a troubled childhood!
Through her Anansi Totem Vixen can call upon a number of different animalistic superpowers, including: greatly enhanced strength, speed and agility, wall climbing, camouflage and flight.
With Arrow's new focus on the supernatural, Vixen should fit right into the show and it'll be great to see Megalyn Echikunwoke playing a live-action Vixen as she truly makes the character her own!
Arrow's Stephen Amell says it all: "Vixen is coming!" But what will her role be on the show? Is this just another crossover, or can we expect Megalyn Echikunwoke to offer more live-action appearances in the future?
