(Warning - the following contains major potential plot SPOILERS for next year's Thor: Ragnarok. Proceed with whatever level of caution that suggests to you is wise...)

Now, over the course of two solo adventures and a pair of Avengers team-ups, we've seen Thor, the Norse god of thunder and excellent hair, get into (and out of) all sorts of scrapes. Now, sure, those scrapes have mostly been the work of his magnificently scheming brother Loki, but with Tom Hiddleston's take on the villain proving ridiculously entertaining, no-one seems to really mind.

What, though, can we expect to see happen to our hero in Thor: Ragnarok, his third (and potentially final) solo movie? Well, if the latest rumors are to be believed:

Thor Could Be About to Lose His Most Trusted Ally

No, not Heimdall.

This most trusted ally.

Specifically, Mjolnir, Thor's trusty hammer.

That, at least, is the word from Dave Gonzales over at the site is reporting that not only has the main antagonist of the movie been revealed, but that her dastardly plan (or at least a facet of it) has been too.

(Note: Potential SPOILERS predictably abound below...)

It Seems That Cate Blanchett Might Be Up To No Good

"Sources have confirmed with that the big bad of Thor: Ragnarok will be Hela, the Marvel comic book character who is the ruler of Hel and the realm of Niflheim. Considering [Mark] Ruffalo let slip that Blanchett will play a baddie [in the movie], it’s probably safe to assume that she’ll assume the role of Hela. She’ll be her normal comic book self, complete with her cloak and power over the dead souls of the Nine Realms. Hela will make it to Asgard, where she’ll be in cahoots with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, current motives unknown."

Which, since Hela has historically been a supremely powerful foe for everyone's favorite thunder god, is likely very good news for fans of watching Cate Blanchett be awesome.

It also, though, might well bode poorly for Thor's hammer:

"Hela and Loki will have set their plan well in motion by the time Thor gets wise to what’s going on. Hela ends up creating the incident to Thor’s journey in the film. According to our sources, when Thor confronts Hela, things do not go well. Not only does she banish Thor from Asgard, but she destroys Mjolnir!"

Which you'd have to imagine he won't be thrilled about.

The even more exciting part, though?

There's Speculation That Blanchett's Hela Could Turn Up in 'Avengers: Infinity War' Too

Specifically, that she might just end up replacing a key - yet cinematically improbable - character in the story: Death herself. As Gonzales puts it:

"There has been speculation that the character of Hela could replace the physical embodiment of Death that Mad Titan Thanos falls in love with when he obtains the Infinity Gauntlet in the comic books on which the Avengers: Infinity War movies are loosely based. The general thought is that having a character representing Death suddenly appear in a big Avengers movie would be more confusing to audiences than a character they already know represents Death from a previous movie."

Which would a) make a whole lot sense, and b) imply the further appearance of Cate Blanchett in the MCU, which is clearly a good idea.

Or, alternatively, this could all just be rumor, and the final movie could be about something completely different. Only time - and perhaps, eventually, Marvel Studios - will tell...

What do you think?
