Everyone who has watched the first season of Marvel's and Netflix's Daredevil will be very familiar with the epic, single shot fight scene at the end of episode 2. It has become well known as one of the best scenes in the show. If you've forgotten just how perfect it was, allow me to refresh your memory.
Now, with the second season less than two months from being released onto Netflix in all its glory, we really have to consider if there is any way we will get a scene that tops that one. It seems unlikely that anything could do that, but you're forgetting that Daredevil isn't the only incredible fighter on the show this season. This time around, we have the pleasure of also getting...
The Punisher and Elektra!
Now, we all know that Frank Castle isn't going to get along very well with Matt Murdock, and there will be some great fight scenes between those two for sure. But with Elektra also thrown into the mix, we can really expect something special, according to Jon Bernthal, who plays The Punisher on the show.
"I think once you introduce a character like Frank Castle, once you introduce a character like Elektra, the stakes are raised a little bit in terms of the fighting."
"All of the sudden you're talking about weapons. Different questions are being brought up. I think what is the genius of Phil Silvera, the fight coordinator and stunt coordinator who choreographs these fights, is the fights are all character-driven and the fights tell a story. It's not just to look pretty or to look cool."
Which sounds pretty awesome. After all, if we had one vigilante in the first season, and three in the second, surely we should be getting three times the action, right?
But now we actually know for a fact that something extra special has been planned for us, specifically an homage to that hallway scene from the first season. At a TCA event, Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil in the show, told us what to expect:
"In terms of this season, there are a number of really good fights."
"There is one in particular that I'm really excited about because it's kind of like an homage to that scene, but it's almost like that scene on crack."
I mean, how can a scene in the same style as that go further? It was already so violent, so fast paced and action packed, that it seems almost impossible to go further. But, if you brought both Elektra and the Punisher into the mix, and found the two of them and Daredevil taking on a huge number of bad guys, it would be incredibly awesome. Mix that with the storytelling style of the fight scenes that Bernthal mentioned, and we could be watching in awe as that scene appears on our televisions for the first time.
If the scene is really as incredible as Charlie Cox makes out, I'm guessing we will know it when we see it. Until then, just enjoy watching the trailer for Season 2 and preparing yourself for a 13-hour marathon on March 18th!
