The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently entering Phase 3, and it’s been a great ride the entire way. We’ve gotten a number of films and television shows, with more in pre and post production, all of which feature great acting and special effects. However, it’s the fight scenes in each movie that deserve some of the higher praise, all of which showcase great choreography, nice lines, and even great background tracks that help enhance the entire scene.

With that in mind, I’ve selected six of what I believe are the biggest, baddest, and/or the best fights in the MCU, such as:

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Captain America vs the Winter Soldier

Honestly, it was really hard trying to pick a single “best” fight scene from this movie. Nearly every fight, from Steve’s clash with Batroc (Georges St. Pierre) to the elevator fight in the Triskelion, is pure gold. However, it’s in the fight on the highway, after Captain America comes face to face with the Winter Soldier himself, where we really see all the pieces fitting together. The excellent choreography, the camera angles, fitting background music, all of which work well together when watching two former friends beating the hell out of each other. Simply awesome, no doubt about it.

2. Marvel’s Daredevil: Daredevil vs Russian Mob

Marvel’s Daredevil proved that you don’t have to have superpowers to have a great on-screen experience, and nothing exemplifies that more than Daredevil’s single shot hallway fight against hordes of Russian mobsters. It’s dirty, it’s gritty, and features throwbacks to similar shots in movies like Oldboy. If season two can pull out even one fight scene like this one, then viewers will be in for another great experience.

3. Ant-Man: Ant-Man vs Falcon

It’s a safe bet that not many people were expecting Ant-Man to be the success it was, either at the box office or with critics. Still, it managed to gain a number of fans with its wittier and lighter tone, likeable characters, and a fun cameo from Anthony Mackie’s Falcon.

After Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang is dropped off at the new Avengers headquarters to gather a piece of technology, the winged Avenger finds and quickly battles the pint-sized newcomer. Through a flurry of bullets, Ant-Man using his constantly shifting size to catch Falcon off guard, and the somewhat surprising end to the fight (spoilers, Ant-Man wins), we end up with one of the best fights the MCU’s Phase 2 has to offer.

4. Thor: Thor vs Frost Giants

When it comes to Marvel’s resident thunder god, he hasn’t really had much of a chance to shine in live action. He was basically beaten by both Iron Man (more of a standstill, but the point still stands) and Hulk in The Avengers, and even a majority of the fights in Thor weren’t all that they could be.

Notice, however, that I said “most”, since easily the best fight in the entire movie came when Thor and his friends journeyed to Jotunheim to exact revenge against some Frost Giants. What we got was one of the coolest (pun definitely intended) fights in the film, with Thor slinging large numbers of Frost Giants left and right before saving everyone in his group with the single best finishing move he ever came up with. It was so good, in fact, that he had to do it twice.

5. The Incredible Hulk: Hulk vs Abomination

Much like Thor, Hulk hasn’t had too many chances to do much of anything extremely cool in live action. This film is not one of those times, proving to be very well made and extremely entertaining. One of the film’s shining moments is also one of the most brutal, when Tim Roth’s Abomination finally squares off against Edward Norton’s Hulk.

Two big monsters, slugging it out through the streets of Harlem and devastating basically everything they can get their hands on, is awesome in and of itself to watch. It’s big, it’s destructive, and features enough explosions to rival a Michael Bay movie. Some might argue it’s also a dumb action movie scene, but who cares when you can see Hulk stabbing Abomination with his own bones?

6. Iron Man 2: Iron Man and War Machine vs Hammer drones

Shell-Head’s film series kicked off the MCU, so it’s only right that at least one of his fights manages to get a spot on this list. Unfortunately, a lot of his fights really don’t hold up against the rest of the MCU. Iron Man’s fight with Iron Monger? It’s still good, just not the greatest. Iron Man 3’s fight against Aldrich Killian? Again, cool to see the armors flying around fighting everyone, but Killian himself lasted barely a minute. Tony wasn’t even the one to take him out in the end (thanks Gwyneth Paltrow).

Iron Man 2’s team up with Don Cheadle’s new War Machine suit, on the other hand, was a big moment for the MCU. Not only do viewers finally get to see the metallic superheroes work together for the first time, but they also got to see the two take out a bunch of robots. Nothing’s cooler than watching robots explode.
