Over the decade my interest in films has grown to where I would like to express how movies are an influence and a reflection of our society

Every generation or so, certain types of genres dominate the box office and the movie theaters. In the 1940's and some of the 50's we had war films, specifically about WWII. In the 1950's and 60's we had westerns. In the 1970's we had war films and drama films. In the 1980's we had big action movies, in the 90's we had movies about the surreal, life and more big action. In the 2000's and 2010's we have had comic book movies. So as the title suggests. What is the next big movie genre?

This question comes from the fact that some might say we have too many superhero movies. Now don't get me wrong, I love superheroes and comic books. I grew up with them, but I have noticed that there has been so many that one could say that they have over saturated the market with these films. Some would even say they are acting similar to how Western's in the 60's were treated. Lots of westerns, so much so people got sick and tired of them and any time after the 60's western's became far and few in between. I imagine superhero movies will dominate the market at least until 2020, but after that I am uncertain.

So with this in mind. I ask again, what is the next big movie genre to dominate the market. At some point superhero movies might decline. The interest will sway to something else. What is that something else. As a nerd, my first two thoughts that pop in my head are Video Game Movies ,which already have a stigma about them, and Manga/Anime movies, supposedly Ghost in the Shell is being made by Disney starring Scarlett Johansson as the lead.

Personally I would love to see a very good and successful Video Game Movie that would open the flood gates for it to be next big movie genre, but I cannot tell. While a Manga/Anime movie would be cool, that type of genre only appeals to a specific niche of people and American Hollywood might just mess it up big time. Remember Dragonball Evolution, no, good, no one wants to remember it.

I don't believe that Manga/Anime Movies will become popular any time soon within the American Market, which is a shame because there are a lot of interesting ideas that come from Manga/Anime. If you want them to succeed, you would need a director with the passion for the material and a production company willing to trust said director.

Video Game Movies seem more likely to succeed, but would it be next big genre? Of that, I cannot say. They do have a stigma about them, starting all the way back to Mario, but I will go more in depth about that at a later time. They do have great potential as well, all you need, like Manga/Anime Movies, is the right director with the passion for the subject and a production company to support said director.

So what do you think is the next big genre to dominate the movie market? Will it be Manga/Anime Movies, Video Game Movies, or will we turn back time and go back to the Western. Tell me your thoughts, cause I am interested.
