As you may or may not be aware, the Suicide Squad movie comes out this August. The trailers look absolutely amazing and the characters are true to the comics. However, there's always that question of will a movie be a box office hit or not. First, let's take a look back at how some of the previous DC movies have been at the box office.
Man of Steel made a total of 668 million USD worldwide. That's not terrible but not super high given the production budget of $225 million. The Dark Knight Rises made 1.085 billion USD worldwide! That's a very pretty number given the production budget of $250 million. People don't really think about this movie, but Watchmen, Zachary Snyders first DC movie made 185 million USD with a production budget of $130 million, it made a very small profit. It is an R rated movie so you have to take that into consideration, but, when you think about the fact that watchmen out of the three movies previously listed, is the most similar to Suicide Squad, and it did poorly. You can also look at this as a way of saying that people want superheroes, in particular Batman. Suicide Squad does feature batman, but lots of people don't even know that. If they promoted a little bit of batman in their next trailer or two, people would be super excited to see it. I'm sure that suicide squad will be a fantastic movie, but it needs to have a big audience for that, batman would give them that. My prediction is that it will make at least $650 million and a maximum of $875 million. It has an audience, but not that huge one that characters like batman and iron man have.
