There is a lot of post related to this but most of them were based on how the writer felt about the movie. I have my own personal rank on the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) movies but this is the Volume 2 of the list. This time I am going to rank this movies based on their performance box-office wise and with critics. With this, I can finally say how all of us say about the movies based on the viewership(box-office) and quality (Critics).
I created a simple formula to determine which Marvel movie that were more widely received by audience and critics. Here is the formula:
Points = Worldwide Box-office rank + Rotten Tomatoes rank
I will use these credible sites to represent each the box-office and critics. You can click on the link to visit these awesome sites!
Box-office - BoxOffice Mojo
Critics - Rotten Tomatoes
I will rank all the movies based on these two variables, then I will apply the formula to each movie. The movie with the lowest points will be the most widely received and the highest point will be the least received.
Refer to the table below to see how both sited ranked all the MCU movies. If you want to see the numbers (tomatometer score and etc) please visit their respective sites.
Here is the rank based on the formula. I added both the BO rank and the Rotten Tomatoes rank from the table. Based on the points here is the MCU movies ranked!
12. The Incredible Hulk
11. Thor: The Dark World
9. Iron Man 2
8. Captain America: TFA
7. Ant Man
6. Avengers: AoU
5. Iron Man 3
4. Iron Man
3. Captain America: TWS
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
1. The Avengers
You can say that you saw that coming. Well, after much time I can say that the audience and the critics were basically on point when watching and choosing their MCU movies. This would be my personal list with a couple twitching, especially Iron Man 3. While I enjoyed that movie, I believe it belong a little bit lower down the list. But this list was based on critics and box-office. Iron Man 3 made more than 1.2 Billion dollar, so I can say that it deserved the no. 5 spot.
The Incredible Hulk made a little over 200 Million (least profitable) worldwide and 67% on Rotten Tomatoes (2nd lowest score) which made the movie a certain failure I might say. The movie itself was not bad, but I guess a stand-alone Hulk movie is (almost) impossible to be made correctly. On the other end of the spectrum, The Avengers made over 1.5 Billion worldwide and with 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. With both box-office and critically acclaimed it is save to say this movie is the best Marvel movie and the best comic book movie (on paper and our heart) of all time.
With phase 3 kicking off later this year, I can only see change going forward. I might as well say that even the first spot might change hands in by next year.
