This is an insane year for Pokemon. With Pokemon GO, the potential for Pokemon Z and the release date for [Pokkén Tournament](tag:3755106) mere weeks away, fans of this franchise must be loving 2016. But we're wondering whether one fighting game has what it takes to stand up next to its competition this year.

Pokken Tournament will be released for the Nintendo Wii U on March 18th, 2016. Its been out in arcades in Japan since March of last year and has enjoyed relative success. But there's one fighting game arriving in February that may completely blow it out of the water: [Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4](tag:3755113).

At the moment, you can download the demo for Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 on the PS4, and fans around the world have done so over 1.5 million times. The demo launched for PlayStation 4 in Japan on November 29 and for PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe on December 18. That's an impressive degree of downloads, all things considered! But then, we are talking about [Naruto: Shippuden](tag:3637021).

The fighting styles of Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 and Pokken Tournament are rather different, though both of them share the same publisher, Bandai Namco. Pokken Tournament is said to be close to Namco's famous Tekken series, whereas Ninja Storm 4 is building upon a highly successful model that fans have enjoyed for years now.

Watching gameplay of Pokken Tournament, I'm certainly intrigued. Though I'm not entirely sure whether it can live up to the level of quality that is constantly exhibited by Naruto Shippuden titles. The previous entry into the franchise was a masterpiece, and the demo for 4 already has me captivated and honing my skills. Does Pokken have the same draw for fans of Pokemon?

The gameplay clip above, which features tons of pros going heads-on in Pokken Tournament is enough to convince you of the fighting game's quality and potential for expression and depth. There are plenty of combos and unique character styles to express yourself with.

In terms of visuals, I feel like Naruto takes home the ultimate prize on the Playstation 4. But perhaps Bandai Namco can surprise us with Pokken Tournament when it hits western shores. Do you have faith for this fighting game? Or will Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 claim the prize?
