If you still haven't seen Straight Outta Compton, then it's time to get to it already! I walked out of the theater feeling inspired and energized. I was also incredibly impressed by the performances from the three leads, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Jason Mitchell, and Corey Hawkins.
Since Straight Outta Compton, Mitchell and Hawkins have been added to the Kong: Skull Island cast, and Hawkins has also joined The Walking Dead. Hawkins, who portrayed Dr. Dre in Compton, can now add 24 to his resume, as he's just been cast as the leading man in the Jack Bauer-less reboot.
Since Kiefer Sutherland announced that he wouldn't return as CTU agent Bauer, 24: Legacy announced that they were looking to cast a person of color.
Hawkins will be portraying Eric Carter, a "strong and smart" character with a rough background who "turned his life around in the Army Rangers." While living in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he is pulled back into the crossfire when his past comes back to haunt him. Carter works with the CTU to help save his life and prevent one of the biggest terrorist invasions in the United States.
A female lead has yet to be cast, as they are still searching for a badass actress that with costar alongside Hawkins.
Congratulations to the minds behind 24: Legacy for deciding to bring more actors of color to the screen. And most importantly, congratulations to Hawkins for an outstanding performance in Compton that is catapulting him to fame.
