Near the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we caught wind of an untitled Han Solo standalone film in the works, which will be set before the events of A New Hope. Soon after, The Hollywood Reporter reported that casting directors for Disney and Lucasfilm were searching the galaxy far and wide for a young Han Solo.
After looking at a reported 2,500 actors to wield Solo's blaster gun and pilot the Millennium Falcon, the studios have narrowed it down to a shortlist of about a dozen actors. According to MTV News, two names have already spoken out enthusiastically about their candidacy.
While promoting their films at the Sundance Film Festival, MTV caught up with Han Solo hopefuls Logan Lerman (Indignation) and Jack Reynor (Sing Street) and asked them how the felt about making it this far in the casting process and potentially taking on such a beloved character.
In addition to saying that playing Han Solo “would be kind of an incredible gig to get,” Jack Reynor also expressed slight apprehension about following up Harrison Ford's performance.
“We’re talking about Harrison Ford. He’s no chump. You can’t do an imitation. You can’t try and just emulate what that is. It’s got to be something new. It’s also got to be something that the audience is going to respond to.”
Logan Lerman, however, was pretty confident in his ability to play the scruffy-looking nerf herder.
“I don’t think I’d be intimidated. It would just be fun.”
Between these two actors, who would you want to see play Han Solo?
