Kara saves family in RV stuck in a forest fire while she narrates letter written by Cat. At her daily stops to Noonan she talks to Alex about Winn, when she meets a man asking about Cat. Senator Miranda Crane comes to National City to hold an anti alien rally with Alex and J'onn posing as FBI agents to protect her from any attacks. Winn and Kara meet by the elevator with Winn asking for space between them. While Cat is organizing a plan to bring down Crane, the man Kara met an Noonan's reveals himself to be her son Adam. He shows her the letter, and makes plans to reconnect with his mother. Cat nearly fires Kara after she admits to finishing the letter and sending it to Adam. She says that she will help her get closer to her son. During the rally a White Martian appears and begins to attack everyone. J'onn freezes and remembers haunting visions of him and his race being attacked by them. The White Martian abducts Crane, but Kara shows up after being alerted by Jimmy, and saves her. They take Crane to the DEO headquarters where she insults Kara and J'onn. J'onn tells Kara and Alex about White Martians and blames himself for their arrival. He warns Kara that should he reveal himself to the world would mean the end of Hank Henshaw. She assures him that she will help him catch the White Martian and keep his identity safe. Cat fails to reach out to her son who thinks his mother only cares about herself. He realizes that she did not right the letter and leaves disappointed.Jimmy and Kara look at photos that Jimmy took of the White Martain and finds out that the Crane in the DEO's care is a shapeshifter, with the real Crane still missing. Alex tries to warn J'onn but he is attacked by the White Martian, who then runs loose around facility killing other agents. Kara is able to scare it away and then she flies after it. While looking for the White Martian, Cat calls and asks to meet with her. J'onn who froze again after the encounter tells Alex how his people, the Green Martians, were made into slaves. The men were put to work while the women and children were all burned to death. Among them were his wife and children. He escaped and was the sole survivor, shameful that he could not protect his family. Kara meets with Cat who tells her about her evening with Adam. Kara promises to help Cat fix her relationship with her son. She meets with Adam who realizes that she was the one who sent the letter. He agrees to go see his mother, but only if she comes along. Kara mediates the conversation between Adam and Cat, finally helping them break the barrier with one another. J'onn tells Alex he is going to draw out and kill the White Nartian. She tries to convince him otherwise, but he says he has made up his mind. J'onn uses telepathy to locate them in the sewers. He finds the real Crane while Alex is attacked and captured by the White Martian, who intends to use her as bait for J'onn. J'onn and Kara go to save Alex in desert. They engage the White Martian in a battle and are able to defeat it. Before J'onn can deliver the killing blow Kara reminds him that he is a good person and not a killer. They lock the White Martian up, who warns them that her kind will find her and kill them. J'onn tells the sisters that his childrens' names were Kim and Tanya. He then tells the sisters that he proud of them and shares a hug with Kara. The real Crane changes her tune about the aliens by thanking Supergirl and plans to revise her Anti Alien Initiative. Adam meets with Cat and tells her he is staying in National City for a while and then thanks Kara before asking her out. While Kara and Alex are bonding they see Supergirl on the news, saving peole around the city, worrying the both of them.
Another story driven episode, but there was enough action for us to make it a pretty successful first team up between J'onn and Kara. Here are some notable scenes.
Miranda Crane: The Senator of National City who is against the idea of aliens living among humans, including Supergirl.
White Martians: A species of Martian who are much more violent than the Green Martians and have a monstrous appearance. They came from the core of Mars and committed genocide to the Green Martians above.
Adam Grant: Cat's estranged son who came to National City in hopes of reconnecting with his mother. He is a college drop out and Kara's new potential love interest.
Team Supergirl- The team is no longer what it used to be. Winn is off on his own, Jimmy stops by to help from time to time and Kara is off helping other people with their problems while struggling to solve her own. Hopefully they get back to how they used to be. It just doesn't feel right at all. Look, we don't even have a picture of them together this episode. Sad.
Kara and J'onn- Kara and J'onn cemented the fact that they are superpals this episode. The respect and care that they have for one another is shown throughout the episode and finally we got the team up we had been waiting for. Sure it could have been longer, but there will definitely be more adventures for them. Also that hug at the end was awesome even though it caught J'onn off guard.
Kara and Alex- I think they could tone it down just a bit with the Dawson's Creek type moments on this show, but at the same time they are pretty heartwarming. We love how Alex has to remind Kara that it is okay to just think about herself once in a while. Kara has to save her sister yet again this episode so some sisterly advice is the least she could do.
Kara and Winn- This hurt our hearts watching them pass each other and seeing that their friendship is not the same. Something was definitely different about Winn and I'm not sure that's a good thing. Space and time Kara. Space and time.
Kara and Adam- Now we have been Kara and Winn shippers ever since this show came out, but it will definitely be interesting to see what lies ahead for these two. We know that that in real life they are a married couple so it's no question that they have amazing chemistry. We are wondering what this could mean for Kara and her relationships with Winn and Jimmy.
Kara and JImmy- At least Jimmy was there to help Kara in figuring out that the Crane the DEO had was the Martian. That would have went totally different if he hadn't. Good job Jimmy.
Kara and Cat- Cat was pretty harsh to Kara this episode and though we agree that Kara overstepped her boundaries, I'm sure she's now thankful that she did. Had it not been for her, Adam would have not come and try to her to know his mom. Kara even went out of her way to put the mission of hunting down a homicidal white Martian just to play the mediator for them.
Cat and Adam- Adam is the only person so far on the show that has stood his ground to Cat. The only one too actually make her feel bad and to not feel like the pwerful person she was. We are happy that she finally got the reality check that's been long over due. About time someone put her in her place. We're glad that they were able to patch things up in the end. Thanks to Kara of course.
Alex and J'onn- They had some pretty emotional scenes together. She learned about the horrors of J'onn's life being Martian and helped him realize that he was no longer alone. She even jumped in front of a superpowered alien when he froze, to protect him. They have definitely come a long way since the start and its nice to finally see that J'onn doesn't have to hide who he is with her and Kara.
J'onn and White Martian- The White Martians are savages. We only saw one this episode and look at the damage it cause. Imagine if its friends were really still out there and looking for it. They would all be screwed. It took the powers of Supergirl and Martian Manhunter to defeat it. They are some scary mother f'ers as well. Hopefully J'onn finally feels like he is taking steps in avenging his family and his people, by capturing this one. One down, millions to go. Bring it.
Senator Crane and Everyone- She was just like Agent Cameron Chase from last week. What a biatch. Of course after Kara saved her she had a change of heart and was less of a poopy head. The Martian posing as her definitely had us hating the character.
Nada, at least none that we could find. Except this Superfreaks sign with the Iconic lettering.
What's To Come/Theories:
The episode ends with Kara and Alex watching the news to see Supergirl trashing the city. While we initially thought that the woman Lord has under his care was an OMAC, we mentioned in our last post that it could have been Bizarro Supergirl. That is exactly who we are getting when we tune in next week and we could not be more excited. It seems as if team Supergirl has disbanded for a bit, but maybe that will change soon. It will be interesting to see Kara get to know Adam and what kind of effect it will have on her relationship with Winn who is already distant from her.
The feels were real in this episode of Supergirl while we get a look into J'onn's tragic past. While it was nice to see the introduction of Adam and him reconnecting with his mother Cat, J'onn's story was what really stuck out this episode. Even though we would have wanted to see a bit more action with this being Supergirl and J'onn's first team up, the story and the acting were fantastic. We tip our hats off to Kara for being the MVP with having to juggle her human and superhuman lives. We give this episode 9.5 Chocos out of 10.
