In the wake of [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](tag:711158) the world was gripped with Star Wars fever. We couldn't be more excited for Rogue One, especially now that Episode 8 has been pushed back seven months. With more character details revealed, and Darth Vader's role confirmed, it looks like the first anthology film will be a fantastic and original addition to the Star Wars universe. So what exactly do we know?
Darth Vader's Back, And Badder Than Ever
The rumors were true! Star Wars's most iconic villain will indeed have a starring role in Rogue One, and it seems as though he may be the main antagonist.
JoBlo reports that Vader will have "a larger role than originally thought," which let's face it, would be totally awesome. MakingStarWars previously reported that James Earl Jones will reprise the role. So how will this work with the plot?
Rogue One is about a group of mercenaries-turned-rebels who steal the plans to the first Death Star. We'll probably see the super weapon being built, and it makes sense for Darth Vader to oversee the construction. It's likely we'll get to see Vader in combat situations, and the Sith Lord will have some serious backup in the form of his Death Troopers: Vader's personal stormtrooper guard dressed all in black.
The original concept art for Rogue One suggests we'll see a grittier side to the conflict, showing rebels and stormtroopers battling on a war-torn planet. Throw Vader into the mix, and this is already shaping up to be an epic movie.
Set just before A New Hope, Rogue One is just full of possibilities. We can finally see how the Rebellion started, back when the legendary Luke Skywalker was still worried about power converters.
And it looks like we might see the return of a few more original trilogy characters, if other rumors are anything to go by...
Diego Luna Could Be Biggs Darklighter
You'd be forgiven for not knowing who Biggs Darklighter is: Luke's friend from Tatooine was actually cut out of the original version of A New Hope. In the remastered edition, one of Biggs's scenes was put back in, as he and Luke reunite before the attack on the Death Star.
"It'll be like old times, Luke. They'll never stop us."
Unfortunately, this scene from earlier in the movie never made it to a final cut, but it was released as an extra!
This deleted scene adds in some important details about the fledgling state of the Rebel Alliance in A New Hope, and it's a shame it was cut, especially as Biggs later dies in the strike against the Death Star.
So what about Biggs in Rogue One? Well, some beady-eyed fans soon pointed out the resemblance between actor Diego Luna and a certain Tatooinien flyboy...
This quickly escalated into a rumor, with multiple websites claiming the casting as fact. Nothing's confirmed yet, but it makes a lot of sense to include Biggs in the Rogue One story, as his character would provide a link to the original trilogy. And speaking of connections to the originals...
Will Princess Leia Appear?
This is even less than rumor status, but with Han Solo getting his own origin movie, Leia Organa is overdue for some backstory. Leia was only 17 when she became a senator, and it was less than a year before she began serving as a double agent for the Rebel Alliance. Her tenacity, bravery, and quick wit were essential to building up the Rebellion's power, and it would be fantastic to see Leia's origins as a young rebel spy.
And we've already got the perfect actress to portray Leia: Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd!
Billie Lourd already appeared in The Force Awakens as a member of the Resistance, but as her role was little more than a cameo there's no reason why she shouldn't portray everyone's favorite space princess in Rogue One. Again, this would provide a connection to A New Hope, and give us some backstory for Leia!
Who Else Should Appear?
But there's one character we know we DON'T want to appear in Rogue One, even though we might get to see Robot Chicken's hilarious sketch on the big screen...
