While Barry is out saving Central City from various disasters, Eobard sees him and plans to use him to get back to his time. Harry is frustrated as he thinks Barry should be spending his time to get faster so that he can defeat Zoom. Jay and Caitlin tell the team that Turtle has been killed, with Jay suspecting that Harry is responsible. Patty tries to talk to a heartbroken Barry, but he tells her he is used to people he loves leaving him. Iris walks in and tries to comfort him when Joe appears and tells them Francine's time is running out. While Harry is conducting his own research on Turtle's brain, Cisco walks in and asks for his help to control his vibes. He sends Cisco to the Time Vault and dresses as Reverse Flash to test a theory. After scaring Cisco, he realizes that his vibes are triggered by fear. While vibing Cisco sees that the Reverse Flash has returned and is at Mercury Labs kidnapping Christina Mcgee. He tells Barry who rushes to confront him, but is easily defeated by Eobard. Back at Star Labs, Harry explains that although Eobard had died in the timeline, he was from the future, making it so his fate was not sealed. Unlike Barry's mother, who's death was cemented and can not be changed. The idea is called a timeline remnant. Caitlin tells Barry that Jay is ill and the only way to save him is to find his Earth 1 doppelganger to replace his dying cells with living ones. Eobard asks Mcgee to use the tachyons to build a machine to send him back to the future and threatens to kill her if she doesn't. Iris and Joe visit Francine who asks for Wally so that they can be together as a family. Iris tells her mother that she forgives her and breaks down in Joe's arms. Caitlin and Barry continue to try to find Jay's doppelganger when Patty shows up. Patty tries to talk to Barry again, hoping to get through to him. He tells her that he does not want to hold her back and regret not doing the things she wants to do with her life. Meanwhile, Harry upgrades Cisco's goggles so that he can trigger and control his vibes better. He is able to see multiple events and is able to focus on finding Eobard. He sees Eobard killing Mcgee and tells the team. He tells them that Eobard is already gone after going through the machine Mcgee built for him. Harry realizes that Cisco actually saw the future after Cisco tells him what the time was in his dream and says they can still stop Eobard. At the CCPD, Joe says his goodbyes to Patty when she brings up Barry and his ties to Star Labs. She tells him that she knows that Barry is the Flash. Iris goes to see Wally and tells him to visit their mother before it is too late. When Barry tells Caitlin that Jay doesn't have a doppelganger, she decides to ask Jay himself. While Joe tells Barry that Patty knows and that he thinks he should tells her about the Flash, Cisco traces Eobard. Barry confronts him at an off site Mercury Labs Facility. He is finally able to defeat Eobard and brings him in. Harry warns Barry not to reveal himself to Eobard as it could rupture the timeline and put those he loves in danger. Cisco experiences a nosebleed. Caitlin asks Jay about his doppelganger and he tells her that her will explain. Cisco talks to Eobard and tells him that he was the reason he got his abilities and suffers another nosebleed. Patty tries one more time to reach out to Barry and tries to get him to confess that he is the Flash. She is disappointed when he says he isn't and leaves crying. Barry goes back to Star Labs and talks to Eobard to try to find out why they became enemies. Eobard tells him that he looked up to Barry in the future and became obsessed. He did everything to become exactly like the Flash and became jealous when he couldn't fill the role himself. So he became the reverse. Caitlin calls Barry upstairs where Cisco is suffering from intense seizures and begins to become intangible. Harry tells them that they ruptured the timeline and that the only way to save Cisco is to send Eobard back. Harry escorts Eobard who tells them that they had created a time paradox. Eobard threatens to ruin Barry when they meet again, with Barry ensuring that he will always stop him. With their combined speed they open a wormhole which Barry launches Eobard through. Cisco stabilizes much to the relief of everyone. Jay meets Caitlin at Hoffer Park and shows her his doppelganger, who is named Hunter Zoloman. He then explains that he can't use Hunter's cells as his own DNA was mutated after facing Zoom and the only way to cure him, is to defeat him. Wally shows up at the West household and asks Iris to go with him to see Francine. When Cisco awakens Barry tells him that they sent Eobard back to save him, with Cisco thanking him. Joe talks to Barry and tells him to be prepared for the many sacrifices he has to make in life, so that he can be the hero he is destined to be. He suddenly gets a call from Patty who tells him that there is a gunman on the train taking her to Midway. The Flash comes to her rescue, but it turns out to be a hoax. Barry reveals himself to Patty, before saying one last goodbye.
Barry was such a badass this episode and proved that he has made some progress with his abilities and fighting prowess. Finally looks like he's not going to let anything hold him back! Check out some of these notable scenes:
Reverse Flash/Eobard Thawne: The big bad from the first season is back and this time with his own face. This version hasn't killed Barry's mother yet and still hasn't found out who the Flash is. However his obsession and jealousy with Barry remains the same.
Hunter Zoloman: Jay reveals that his doppelganger was adopted and raised by the Zolomans after his mother died after giving birth to him. He also thought of using Hunter's cell but can not due to his own cells being mutated. He shares the same name as Zoom from the DC Comics and is an enemy of Wally West.
Team Flash- The team yet again had to deal with impossible this episode and though things didn't turn out exactly how they expected, they all lived to fight another day. We were really hoping Patty would have been addition, but is doesn't look like it's going that way right now. Also Harry keeping secrets will definitely backfire at some point.
Barry and Patty- They broke our hearts one too many times this episode and we can blame Barry for that one. The whole entire time he tried to "protect" her from the truth, but in the end told her anyways. Now she knows and she's gone. For now. #Parry4evah
Barry and Eobard- The rivalry continues with these two. They destined to be each other's enemies and we saw how much it killed Barry to let his mother's killer go, so that he can come another day to do finish. At least now Barry can handle the guy.
Barry and Cisco- Barry had to make a hard choice and he chose to save Cisco without even thinking about it. The Flash and Vibe, bros for life.
Barry and Iris- We all know part of Patty's leaving was so that we can go back to these two. She also has the most impeccable timing. Why you always listening in on the conversation for hmm..
Barry and Joe- It's been a bit since we've seen a heart to heart between the two. The whole "You're going to be one of the greatest heroes the world will ever see, but you'll have to make a lot of sacrifices along the way." speech was perfect. It sums up Barry and his life as the Flash.
Cisco and Harry- They are comedic gold together. The slurping annoying Harry. The smart ass responses they always have for one another balances out the dark times the team has had to go through and continue to.
Cisco and Eobard- Cisco used his chance to tell him off before locking him up. I got these powers because of you and I used them against you. Bye Felicia.
Caitlin and Barry- She finally told him about Jay's illness and how they could possibly save him. Despite Barry being super busy, he still made time to help out Good man.
Caitlin and Jay- It's hard seeing Caitlin have to go through this over again afternoon Ronnie. Hopefully she isnactusllly able to save Jay, but when she does, will he stay?
Iris and Wally- They definitely got off on the wrong foot since he stepped back into her and Joe's life, but it looks like things will get better. Him asking her to go with him to visit Francine is a step in the right direction.
Patty and Joe- She was bound to figure out at some point and she's right about Joe and Barry being terrible liars. What could have been a nice goodbye for these couldn't have ended more awkwardly.
Joe and Francine- Not sure if they are back to being husband and wife, but they were acting it this episode. The important thing is that they are okay now and Francine can die knowing that her family loves her.
Joe and Iris- Another emotional moment. Even though their time was cut short, their family was together, with the exception of Wally. Hopefully we get a scene with all of them together before Francine passes.
Harry and Eobard- It was extremely trippy seeing these two face each other this episode. Their whole situation is messed up and only Harry knew the whole story.
Harry and Jay- jay already knew that Turtle's death was Harry's doing. They are like two children who hate each other and constantly blame one another for everything. It's adorable and a little funny. Jay's kind of right though, kind of.
New 52- 9:52 was the time Cisco saw while looking into the future and they had 3 hours and 52 minutes o save Mcgee.
Bye Felicia-A reference to the movie "Friday" with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. Cisco and his pop culture references for the win!
What's To Come/Theories:
With his best girl gone and his archenemy, whom helped get back to the future, it finally looks like the badass Barry we've been waiting for has finally come out of hiding.Hunter Zoloman is revealed to be Jay's Earth 1 counterpart and Reverse Flash will forever be a thorn in Barry's side. The previews for next week's 'Fast Lane' introduces Tar Pit, a meta who's body is made of molten asphalt and burns on touch. He can trap people in the substance in his body and can project it at people. He is virtually invulnerable. If you didn't watch the video above this was the theory: Tar Pit wrecks havoc on the city and causes Wally to crash his car. Iris is hit with a piece of glass from the wreck (which is shown in the clip) and Barry says he wasn't fast enough. It would be interesting to see Hunter's story somehow entangled in this. He is also there and is injured in the accident and loses the use of his legs, just like in the comics. Thus beginning the Wally and Hunter rivalry. As for Zoom, we will just have to wait and see when he pops back up. We also can not wait to see the team take a field trip to Earth 2.
There were so many emotional moments in this episode, so get ready to have your heart strings pulled. The scenes with Barry and Patty leading up to the reveal were very heartbreaking to watch. These two deserve each other and maybe one day in the future, they find their way back to one another. For now, goodbye Patty. The West family also had their share of sad moments, as did Caitlin and Jay, Harry and Cisco. We finally get to see a fight where Barry doesn't necessarily get rocked. Looks like he is gearing up for the round two of his battle with Zoom. This episode gets 10,000 sonic punches out of 10,000. What did you guys think of 'The Reverse-Flash Returns'. Leave it in the comments below we'd love to read them!
