Before I started with SFX masks and decorations I made some short comics, stories and paintings. But with horror SFX/make-up effects I was able to become creative in new ways! I don’t like to follow the tutorials that are already available on the Internet, but rather try my own original ideas or methods to accomplish something new. I like to work with basic materials which can be bought in average stores and are not expensive, so anyone can afford them. To be honest, sometimes when I see something interesting lying next to the garbage can, I take it and use it for my decorations.

If you don’t want to miss my work you can follow me on my Facebook page Secret Home Lab of Mr. Lanz. There you can find not only the finished work but also step by step tutorials for it (including the ones from the photos here).

I do various kinds of work. Some of it is gore effects, such as fake intestines, various types of wounds, amputated limbs and so on. I also do monster masks which are made using layers of paper tissues and liquid latex. I use the same materials also for making monster busts, which is a speciality of mine. Occasionally I also do some face paint work.

For several years I have been part of a team which works on Shockproof Film Festival which screens horror and extreme cinema, old and new. My job there is mainly to make the thematic decorations which are exhibited in the foyer of the cinema. However, I also make some on-stage effects used in live introductions before the start of the movie. For example we have done a live hand amputation on stage. For this event I also remade some masks from actual movies like Troll 2 and Robot Monster.

When I work I like to listen to dream pop music and drink coke with whiskey. I also love to read American indie comics like Charles Burns or Daniel Clowes and Japanese manga like Tekkonkinkreet by Taiyo Matsumuto, Ichi the Killer by Hideo Yamamoto, Phoenix by Osamu Tezuka and others. When I have time I play video games on my PlayStation. Apart from that I’m an enthusiast for psychology, mainly psychoanalysis and social psychology. Presently I’m also part of first czech Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast team where I play Janet Weiss. For our show I also made some props.
