When a person witnesses a bad sequel or bad film in general, the first thought is....why was this made? There are so many great sounding films that fans ultimately get excited for, but then are let down because the project was cancelled. Tears of sadness fill viewers eyes as their nerd fantasies drift off in the wind. These are the greatest superhero films that were never made.
1. X-Men Origins: Magneto
Before Michael Fassbender took the reigns of young Magneto, Magneto was supposed to get his own feature length film treatment. Before the failure of X-Men Origins: Wolverine; Magneto was hyped up to be one of the greatest origin stories of all time. The overall let down of it's Wolverine counterpart shut down all production of a Magneto origins film, and instead was shown in X-Men: First Class.
2. Batman: Year One
After the let down of the Batman and Robin film, Warner Brothers started looking at how to get Batman back on the big screen. Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky wrote up a perfect film set in Tokyo, where Clint Eastwood would don the black cape. Eventually cancelled due to the television series, fans were truly asking for the Frank Miller, gritty styled film instead.
Spider-Man? What? Yes...Spider-Man, the one that was supposed to be made before Sam Raimi took over. This movie was going to be directed by James Cameron and was supposed to be super sexual, violent, and more swears than you could imagine. Eventually cancelled due to the studio leaning towards a pg-13 rating, Spider-Man would have been a great different look at this hero.
4. Justice League
Originally going to be directed by mastermind George Miller; this would have been a truly awesome experience. The price to make this film would have came out to over 300 million dollars to make, and eventually, production shut down.
5. Plastic Man
This superhero film where a character is experimented on by an evil scientist and gains his powers, was going to be directed by The Wachowski Brothers. This was supposed to be a great CG comedy fueled by action packed scenes, and pop culture jokes. Eventually cancelled due to the studio wanting more serious films such as The Matrix, Plastic Man could have been a comedy nobody knew they wanted.
6. Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max
This film was supposed to be created by the same director of X-Men Origins: Magneto; David Goyer. This would have told the story of how Green Arrow has to escape a highly secured prison called Super Max.He would have fought many super villains and anti-heroes from DC's large character forum, but this film was cancelled due to time management and the success of the television show.
