While Diggle and Lyla are out on a date they are approached by an Argus agent named Chang whom they know. Before he can tell them what is going on he is captured by masked men and Diggle is shot. Oliver helps Felicity try to adjust to her life as a parapalegic and tries to slowly bring her back on the team. He hears about what happened to Diggle and Lyla so he rushes to see them. The team plan to find Chang and the people responsible for taking him Diggle begins to warm up to his brother and brings him a burger. They talk about Diggle's involvement with the Green Arrow and how they used to do the same thing protecting people in the war. Back at home Felicity begins to hear voices and then suffers hallucinations of her past self, mocking her current situation. Laurel clears Diggle to investigate a crime scene and he identifies Chang, who was tortured before being killed and is missing an eye. Lyla and Diggle go to Argus and talk to Amanda Waller who tells them that she has no idea who is responsible, but as they leave she hands Lyla a flash drive. The team finds out about and organization called Shadowspire. Oliver and Diggle recall the name. While Diggle and Andy were in Afghan they were war profiteers. Thinking that his brother's ties with the organization back in the past has brought them to Star City, he confronts Any who claims to have cut ties with them. He then offers to help and tells him that he would most likely find them at a freeport. As the team moves in the pressure of Oliver bringing Felicity in nearly gets Diggle killed. Oliver is able to get them safely out. While telling Oliver that she can no longer be part of the team she tells at her hallucination to leave her alone. Thinking she is upset with him, Oliver leaves to give her some air. Diggle brings Andy to Argus, after he offers to help them bring down Shadowspire. While Waller thinks that they are after weapons, Andy thinks that it something much bigger than just ralguns. While Oliver and Laurel train he reveals to her that Barry ran back in time and and saved them all from Vandal's attack. He blames himself for Felicity's predicament because he did not listen to Barry's warning of changing the timeline. Laurel assures him that it is only the fault of Damien and that things will eventually get better. The team arrive at the location Shadowspire were apparently supposed to be, but nothing happens, making Oliver think something is wrong. Argus is then attacked by Shadowspire and their Lieutenant asks for codes to unlock Rubicon. Lyla alerts Diggle who then uses the monitors to contact Team Arrow. While talking to Felicity, who has finally overcome her demons, he gets the transmition from Diggle and groups the team together. Lieutenant Joyner kills Waller who refuses to give him the codes and then forced Lyla to do so. Andy tells Diggle to trust him so that they can bring them down. After the team takes out some Shadowspire agents Felicity sends Laurel and Thea to keep Rubicon safe while Oliver goes to help Diggle. Andy pretends to turn in Diggle, which buys Felicity enough time to block them from unlocking Rubicon. Before Joyner can kill Diggle, Andy attacks him and saves his brother. Oliver shows up and helps them defeat the rat of the agents. andy fight leader. The team make a toast to Waller and asks Diggle what he is going to do with Andy. Oliver promises Felicity that he will stop at nothing to make sure she can walk again. Diggle brings Andy home and let's him meet Sara, finally giving him a second chance. In flashbacks Diggle tries to keep his brother from going back to his criminal ways. Although he denies having any part of the war profiteering for most of their time there, he continues to lie to Diggle. It is then revealed that the leader of Shadowspire is Reiter.
The fighting sequences just keep getting better and and that's the way we like it. Here are some notable scenes.
Lieutenant Joyner: A former Army Lieutenant whom Diggle and Andy served under. He had ties to Shadowspire back when they were war profiteers and took Andy underneath his wing. His leader is revealed to be Reiter. He also seemed to have ties to Amanda Waller, who he kills.
Team Arrow- With Felicity still trying to get into the swing of things, the team has definitely slowed down in the tech department. Sure there were a few hiccups but they saved the day. Maybe not Amanda even though they don't seem too bummed about it.
Oliver and Felicity- Seeing Oliver being the optimistic one is still something we need to get used to, but he helped Felicity get out of her rut. She got thrown into the fight right away after coming home from the hospital and almost quit the team, but of course Ollie can't have that.
Oliver and Diggle- Diggle's green brother saved him multiple times this episode. Oliver then convinced Diggle to give Andy another chance just like he had with him. The bros are back in full force!
Oliver and Laurel- Laurel's reaction to Oliver telling her about Barry changing the timeline was priceless. After being at each others throats last week, Laurel was his shoulder to cry on this episode, especially with everything happening with Felicity and him blaming himself for it.
Diggle and Andy- Despite all the horrible things he did in the past, Andy definitely redeemed himself this episode. They had some trust issues, but Diggle finally let his brother help him save Lyla and the city. Then he finally let Andy out of his cell and brought him home to meet Sara. If that shot of them together as a family didn't make you cry at least a little well, you have no heart. We were balling.
Diggle and Lyla- It could have gone south for either of them this episode, but they did everything to protect each other and everyone they cared about. All they wanted was a quiet night out and they get involved with Argus again thanks to Mrs. Waller.
Amanda, Diggle and Lyla- She is just not a nice person. At all. Diggle had no problem telling her off and it looked like Lyla was the only one sort of saddened by her death. Gone and kind of want to be forgotten.
Andy and Joyner- He was his little lap dog in the army but Andy showed him who was boss this time around. He really did put on his best poker face and had Joyner going for a bit. Then he laid the smack down.
Andy and Reiter- Seeing as they had some history together, it will be interesting to see if Andy will finally become one of the the good guys. Him gaining his brother's trust and then possibly getting to know the team could result in someone being in that grave. Hopefully not though.
Batman/Oracle Reference/Overwatch- On Earth 2 in the comics, a man named Terry Sloane is said to be one of the smartest minds on the planet. He was able to outsmart Mr. Terrific by reprogramming his T-Spheres. Oliver finally gives Felicity her codename: Overwatch. He claims that the name Oracle was already taken or he would have called her that.
The Shining- She would be reading that book.
What's to Come/Theories:
It's bad enough that they have Damien and H.I.V.E to deal with, now they've got Shadowspire pissed off. That means we will definitely see a reunion between Reiter and Oliver at some point. And we are thinking that Andy's involvement with him in the past will definitely amount to no good, now that he and his brother are getting closer, and if he goes rogue. In previews for next week's episode, it looks like we are going to meet another intellectual challenger who is going to give Felicity a run for her money. They call him the Calculator and it is supposedly her father. It is also the episode where Roy is slated to return. We've seen a couple previews making it seem like anyone could go at any moment, but of course it will probably be hands of Damien, who we are anxiously waiting for to pop out of the shadows. And Genesis. We definitely still have to all about. One day soon.We will link to the article once it's gone live.
There were plenty of broments in this episode. Everyone was going through something, but finally over came their own personal demons. The Diggles are taking steps to bettering their relationship, Felicity is not letting her being a paraplegic bring her down or stop her from helping the team and Oliver is reminded that he does not have to blame himself for everything going wrong. There is only one man man responsible and his name is Damien Darhk. What did you guys think about 'A.W.O.L.'? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
