I have been seeing this fan theory a lot. Now to me it makes ABSOLUTE sense. It fits with all of the criteria for it to work. Honestly, I can't believe I didn’t see it before.
The theory is pretty brilliant. In the second Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) we see Draco tear out a page from the book. The idea is that there is a reason we see this. Draco knows more about the plan to open the chamber. He tears out this page because it tells of the basilisk and what it can do. What other reason would rich boy Draco Malfoy have to tear a page from a book when he could just buy it? The whole year Draco binds his til he can find a way to secretly get this information to the Golden Trio (aka Ron, Harry, and Hermione). Finally, he gives Hermione the paper by slipping it to her somehow and she has it with her when she is trying to find the boys.
I think this theory has good potential besides one minor note. SHE DOESN’T HAVE IT WITH HER WHEN SHE IS FOUND! The reason I think that its impossible for her to have had it on her person is because the teachers would have found it. They checked Collin Creevy's camera so I'm sure they would have checked her hands. My guess is that Draco saw her leave the paper on a table in the library. He grabbed it up after he knew she had left and followed far behind her.
After seeing her be petrified he made sure she was found. He didn’t know what to do so he began binding his time again. He knew things were escalating so he put the page in her hand one day. Draco knew eventually it would be stumbled upon. That’s how I figure this theory would actually work.
What do you think?
