Given the number of deaths in a given season AMC's The Walking Dead is no stranger to having to saying goodbye to some pivotal characters. But one character I have a hard time imagining going without is Lauren Cohan's character Maggie Greene.

In an episode of Inside the Actors Studio, the actress revealed that there was one scene that was so intense it almost had her calling it quits in Season 3.

"The script where Maggie has to give the character Lori a C-section to save the baby that goes on to be the baby Judith. So, I went two doors down and I knocked on Steven [Yeun]'s door and said, 'I have to leave the show. I don't think I can do it. It affects you so deeply to the core to touch on, to dive into this material and then I realized that's why I have to do it.
Because the outcome of that, as heinous and as sleeplessly that affects me and I'm sure it affected people that watched it, we watch to feel and to hopefully honestly portray something and that stuff happens. What's the point in not getting real about it?"

No matter your opinion on Lori, seeing her say goodbye to Carl was incredibly hard to watch. I really can't blame Lauren Cohan for grappling with her ability to perform in such a heartbreaking scene, but I'm glad she stuck with it.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC on February 14 at 9pm.
