John J. Rambo is, to many, the penultimate man's man. He is quiet, mysterious, and deadly, yet he doesn't kill or attack unless provoked. He's been taught to ignore pain, ignore weather, ignore everything that could get in between him and his mission.

But with all that toughness and all that deadly experience, he still is vulnerable. He misses his friends and the life he had as a respected military man. He can't readjust to the civilian life that he left behind because he isn't the same man he was. He's a tool—a sharpened edge that exists solely for the purpose of killing. He is the Terminator before Skynet (or James Cameron) could invent a Terminator.

As a fan of the series, I frequently watch the movies and in the time of constant reboots, remakes, and sequels, it is inevitable that someone will eventually have to cast a new First Blood, so I figure what the hell, I'll do it myself.

The Big Question: Who should play Rambo?

I think there are a few good actors who could pull of this role fantastically, so I'll make a few suggestions:

  • Tom Hardy
  • Michael Shannon
  • Josh Holloway

Sheriff Will Teasle

Sheriff Teasle is the man who starts trouble with Rambo because he doesn't want him in his town.

  • Mel Gibson
  • Josh Brolin
  • Hugh Jackman

Colonel Sam Trautman

Colonel Trautman is the man who trained Rambo in combat and taught him to be a cold-blooded killer.

  • Gary Oldman
  • Kevin Costner
  • Jeff Daniels

Deputy Arnold Galt

Deputy Galt is the man that sets Rambo on his rampage in the first place by abusing and disrespecting him at the police station.

  • Tim Roth
  • Tom Hiddleston
  • Bradley Cooper

What do you think? Should Hollywood take another crack at a Rambo movie? Would it work without Sylvester Stallone?
