Horror movies are filled with many different deaths. Some are gruesome, some shocking, and some are very creative. I decided to make a list of some of my favorite horror kills. Some spoilers ahead.
1. The Golden Orb
The Phantasm series gave us some great kills. My favorite ones were always with the Tall Man's orbs. In Phantasm 2, a golden orb appeared. It did end up killing a fellow villain though. While trying to kill the film's female lead, the golden orb burst the a metal door hitting one of the Tall Man's henchmen. The orb didn't stop there. It activated rotating blades and tunneled through the henchman, finally getting stuck in his face.
2. Choke on em'!
Zombies can be pretty terrifying. Some are slow and some run like marathon runners. In the original Day of the Dead we see the death of the film's main douche-bag, Captain Rhodes. This guy is a jerk through the entire movie. I'm pretty sure everyone was waiting for him to get eaten or shot. His character got the death he deserved. Upon opening a door, he hoped would lead him to safety, he is attacked by a group of zombies. They begin ripping him apart while Rhodes screams "Choke on em'!"
3. Hammer Time
Kirk was simply checking out a house in Texas and got more than he bargained for. Leatherface appears for the first time, raising a sledgehammer and wearing a horrifying mask of human flesh. Anytime I talk about Texas Chainsaw I remember this scene. It's Leather's reveal and it came out of nowhere. Plus a sledgehammer to the head is a pretty bad way to go.
4. Gut you like a fish
When you see an actress/actor with their name on the film's poster, you think that they might make it to the end of the film, or at least a good portion of it. Not so with Scream. Drew is killed in the iconic opening scene of this teen slasher flick. Not only is she stabbed multiple times, but she is hung from a tree, and gutted, while her mother hears her over the phone.
5. Permanent Detention
A lot of movies have characters we can't wait to see meet their well deserved demise. In Child's Play 2, we meet Ms. Kettlewell, Andy's new rude teacher. She's only in the film for a short time, but it's enough to make you dislike her. Chucky stabs her with an air pump and proceeds to beat her to death with a yard stick. Thanks Chucky.
Rob Zombie did an amazing job with House of a 1000 Corpses and its sequel, The Devil's Rejects. Rejects ended with one of the best endings I've ever seen. The remaining members of the Firefly family: Captain Spaulding, Baby, and Otis, stop their vehicle with a police roadblock up ahead. Of course they aren't going to go down easy. They pass out their guns and floor it. They begin shooting, but don't hit anything. The officers shoot the trio multiple times, killing them and ending their reign of terror. What made this scene great was that there was no sound except for the great song 'Freebird' by Lynard Skynard. Great job Rob!
7. Jesus wept
Blood, bones, guts, gore, and dismemberment. The deaths in the Hellraiser films are very gruesome. Now in the first film I really wanted Julia to die, but not as much as Frank. His death is not only horrible, but shocking. After Kristy tricks Frank into confessing, Pinhead sends multiple chains with hooks to pierce Franks body. Before he is ripped apart, Frank manages to say "Jesus wept".
Dream Warriors has to be my favorite sequel. It had some great kills, which made it hard to choose just one. I loved the puppeteer kill. However, my favorite had to be Jennifer. She falls asleep while watching television in the common room. Freddy appears and when she approaches the television Freddy pops mechanical arms out of the TV and grabs her. His head then comes out, with the antenna on top of his head, and grants Jennifer her dream of being on TV. He delivers the amazing line "Welcome to Prime time Bitch!" before shoving her head into the TV.
9. Right in the eye
This kill was the first time we saw Jason in his iconic hockey mask. Vera was trying to retrieve Sully's wallet that was floating in Crystal Lake. As she goes to grab it, she sees Jason standing on the dock. He lifts his arm and points a spear gun right at her. She thinks it's Sully playing another prank, but she's wrong. He shoots the spear right into her eye.
10. Wall decoration
I saved my favorite slasher for last. Michael Myers has some of the best kills in horror, in my opinion. In the first film he grabs Paul by the neck, lifts him off the floor, and stabs him hard enough that he sticks to the wall. He does this without struggling then moves on to his next kill. Michael is the best!
