Spoiler free! Hey everyone! I finally got a chance to go see The Boy today. I was really interested in this film when I saw the trailer last year. It kept me wondering if the doll was really alive or is something else going on.
First off, let me say Lauren Cohan did an amazing job! I know she kicks ass as Maggie on The Walking Dead, but I was curious how her first film would turn out. The film starts off with Greta heading to a mansion in a remote English village, having accepted a nanny position. upon her arrival, she learn that Brahms, the young boy she is going to care for, is really a life sized porcelain doll. He looks like Annabelle's boyfriend. Once she is left alone, she dismisses Brahms. She ignores the rules left to her by Brahms' parents. Little by little she notices Brahms seems to move on his own. Her things begin to go missing from her room. Slowly she begins to learn what really happened to Brahms, while dealing with her own dark past.
Greta begins to wonder if she is losing her mind or could this doll really be alive. Without spoiling the ending, all I can say is what a twist! I had a few thoughts about what might happen, but I didn't expect that. There aren't too many scares in the film. It spends more time building this frightening and uneasy atmosphere around Brahms. Overall, it was a good film that kept me wondering what Brahms would do next.
