Fifty Shades of Black is a comedic parody of the movie Fifty Shades of Grey written by and starring Marlon Wayans. Christian Black (Marlon Wayans) is a successful businessman with a passion for BDSM and a shady character. One day, he is being interviewed at his office by a college student named Hannah Steele (Kali Hawk) where he almost immediately interested in making her his submissive. After some bad jokes and poor acting, Christian and Hannah enter a dominant and submissive relationship akin to the movie it's mocking.

Fifty Shades of Black does not have a story. Marlon Wayans wrote a movie that has zero substance and is full of dick jokes that don't land. The first thing this movie fails to do is make a coherent plot that supplements the jokes and all it would have had to was establish Marlon's character Christian Black as a real person instead the over the top caricature that he was. If you watched Fifty Shades of Grey then probably have already watched this movie save for a few scenes here and there. This movie basically a carbon copy of its predecessor and that made for some very predictable scenes and jokes. Last thing, the absence of an overall plot was not the worst thing this movie did and additionally we have seen Marlon pull off parodies before like the Scary Movie franchise and my personal favorite, Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.

The very definition of a parody is an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect. Apparently, Baby Way Productions has forgotten that definition because Fifty Shades of Black lacked the essential element of a parody and that is the comedy. The movie was simply not funny for most of its duration. I will admit that were three scenes in which I laughed hysterically but aside from those few seconds, the rest of movie wasn't funny. As previously mentioned this movie was written for grade schoolers the reason being that only grade schoolers would find the abundance of dick jokes and potty humor funny. Spoiler alert, there was one scene in particular in which Affion Crockett (Eli Black in the movie) was wearing an egregiously long prosthetic penis and was knocking stuff around him over with it. How is that funny? Answer. It was not funny in the slightest and that wasn't the first mention of his outrageously large johnson. Marlon and the film's producers took the easy road with their jokes as opted for childish humor that never landed instead some well-written dialogue that actually set up an impactful joke.

Final Thoughts:

Do not waste your time with this movie. Marlon Wayans's stated in an interview that he wanted to legend and this movie would help him get there. I truthfully believe this did nothing towards his goal except make sure that it never happens. If you really want to see this movie I would recommend waiting until it is on TBS and becomes heavily censored. To put it simply, the movie is not funny or entertaining and this will not be a guilty pleasure for anybody with a working adult's brain. Marlon Wayans is a talented man but this movie was complete garbage and he knows that he could do so much better.
