According to multiple sources, including WIRED, actor Benicio del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Usual Suspects, The Wolfman, Sin City) has been cast for a major role in the upcoming Star Wars film, as of now known simply as, Star Wars: Episode VIII. While the extent of his role, the motivations of his character, or even confirmation of his participation remain unknown, rumors of his possible inclusion in the film have sparked intense debates throughout the Star Wars fandom.
While del Toro is a fantastic actor with an enormous range, in my opinion, there is only one character that he could be playing.
Benicio del Toro is playing the older version of the young hero from the TV show Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger
Why do I think this? Well, for starters, Del Toro could be a dead ringer for an older Ezra Bridger (mid-late 40's?) which is just about how old Ezra would be at the time of Star Wars: Episode VIII. Also, Del Toro has been reportedly cast as a villain and seeing as to the fact that all the recent trailers for Star Wars: Rebels Season Two have shown Ezra tapping into the dark side and even talking with Darth Maul, it's a real possibility that Ezra is a Sith or Dark Side user at this point in the series.
Most importantly? I think Disney has made a multi-billion dollar investment in Star Wars and part of that money has gone towards creating some of the fantastic characters we've been able to see in Star Wars: Rebels. Eventually, some, or at least one of them, needs to be used in the cinematic universe. Who better than the star? And who better to play him than Benicio Del Toro?
