This is another bit of news that I've been meaning to provide my thoughts on. Apparently, there will be a Roger Rabbit/LEGO Movie-style Nicktoons movie directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) coming real soon (assuming 2020 given that a third Spongebob movie is in the works and set for the year before).
To tell you the truth, I was more of a Disney Kid back in the day, but of all the Nicktoons that were on in the 90's, Rugrats was my favorite. I also do remember watching CatDog, Hey Arnold and Rocket Power (ask my sisters about that one).
I would say that Spongebob, Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron were my other favorite Nicktoons from when I was a kid but that's a story for another time.
But, you may be wondering what I think of this alleged Nicktoons movie.
As awesome as this idea sounds, I just feel that the Nicktoons get way too much attention from merchandise to memes on the internet. I just think that there should be a good balance of attention between Nicktoons, Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoons and The Disney Afternoon plus Kim Possible (the only Disney cartoon from the 2000's that gets the most attention; "Recess" would be a close second).
And I know the Cartoon Cartoons (Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Foster's, Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, Codename: KND, etc.) are a close second to the Nicktoons getting attention and merchandise but you don't see them getting their own crossover movie, do you?
The Disney Shows? Just CineStory comics of Darkwing Duck, Ducktales (rumored) and Gargoyles, Ducktales (which is the one out of all of them getting the most attention) getting a reboot for Disney XD next year and that's about it.
Oh! And also unlike the Nicktoons where they have their own block (on TeenNick no less) called "The Splat" (assuming that Viacom is taking baby steps with bringing these shows back in re-runs), the Cartoon Cartoons WERE on Boomerang for a while but now it's all Pokemon, Johnny Test and Garfield while Ducktales and Kim Possible used to be on "Watch Disney Channel's Disney Replay" with the latter being on TV at 4:00 in the morning on Disney Channel and either 10:00 or 3:00 or 4:00-ish on Disney XD but now they're not on there anymore. Plus they only bring out the likes of "Darkwing Duck" on "Watch Disney Channel" during Christmastime.
Now, this is not to say anything bad about the Nicktoons. In fact, I understand why they're giving these shows all that attention. Because of us. And even if my opinion on the Nicktoons is as it says in the article, I'll still see the Nicktoons movie. If we keep up wanting more with the Nicktoons and just as much with the Cartoon Cartoons, Disney Afternoon and the Disney shows of the 2000's, we'll be showing these shows to our kids and then our grandkids. And the impact they had on us back then will live on for years to come.
