The film industry has been bedevilled by inadvertent leaks in most recent years that reveal potential, imperative story details before the companies intend for these secrets to be known. These leaks don’t come from fans or insiders, they can come from toy companies that are simply showing off the marketing that they have for upcoming films and it looks like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the next victim.
LEGO showcased some of its upcoming sets at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, a German toy convention, on Friday. One interesting set in particular hints at Boba Fett's appearance in 'Star Wars: Rogue One' or at least his ship, Slave I, will be making an appearance.
The paint job seems to be a bit different. The story takes place a year-or-so prior to the events of the original trilogy and it’s already been rumored that bounty hunters would play a huge part in the story of the film. Original trilogy characters such as Darth Vader and even a young Han Solo are expected to appear as well, so it’s not exactly like Fett wouldn't fit in the film. If the bounty hunter does in fact appear in 'Rogue One', the question that remains is how big of a part will he play in the main story arc. I doubt that it would be just a quick cameo since he’s an iconic character in the franchise, if he shows up then he’ll likely be one of the bigger threats to our protagonists.
A 'Boba Fett' anthology film is in development and slated for a 2020 release. It’s possible that Fett will appear early to establish the new actor in the role and set up the events of that movie depending on when it is set during the trilogy. Han Solo is rumored to appear in Rogue One prior to his solo anthology film slated for a 2018 release. Now with LEGO letting the cat out of the bag this early, it’s quite likely that we’ll be hearing more about Boba Fett’s inclusion in 'Rogue One' along with a casting for the bounty hunter sooner rather than later.
'Rogue One' is set in the time between Episodes III and IV so given the timeline and subject matter, it makes sense that Darth Vader could play a part. Since the film takes place during heyday of the empire when they were increasing their stronghold on the galaxy far far away, Vader is definitely a key player in that expansion and tyranny. Makingstarwars.net reports that Vader's iconic costume has been recreated by helmet sculptor Brian Muir and his team, and "perfectly" matches Vader's look in 'A New Hope'.
Written by Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta, 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' debuts in theaters this Christmas on December 16, 2016. The film tell the story of a group of rebel fighters who unite in order to steal the Death Star plans from the clutches of the ruthless Galactic Empire.
