Two hoodlums hang one of their accomplices over a vat of tar to get access to an accounts at Central City Bank. He gives it to them and they drop him into the pit regardless. Barry is still recovering from his break up with Patty and the Wests have finally started to act like a family. While they are having dinner, Iris tells Wally that she does not approve of his street racing, causing him to leave. The same night, Joey has returned as a metahuman with tar based abilities and kills one of the men who had tried to get rid of him before. While investigating the crime scene Barry tells Joe that it was the work of a metahuman and works with the team in finding out more about him. Iris shows up at one of Wally's street races in order to get him to give it up. Barry tries to find something useful to do with his time so he tries to help Harry. Harry has finally completely making the speed stealing tech and installs it in Barry's suit. While Barry confronts Tar Pit from killing another one of his assailants, Harry begins to siphon Barry's speed. Barry is able to stop Tar Pit from killing the man whom he takes back for questioning. After learning the identities of the victims, they are able to figure out that Tar Pit's real name is Joseph Montellioni. After being scolded by Harry earlier on Barry tries to reach out to him again. He shows him a way that they could close the breaches, something that Earth 1 Wells had done some research on. Iris tries to get Clark Bronwen to stop holding the races in hopes to get Wally out of the lifestyle. Although he threatens her, she records their conversation and plans to expose him. Wally confronts her about it and tells her he can not protect the next time. Harry meets with Zoom and gives him the speed that he siphoned from Barry. He tells Zoom that he will give him the rest if he gives him back his daughter. Zoom then attacks Harry and threatens to torture Jesse instead. He then leaves through the breach. Harry has built the piece of tech to close the breaches and goes to test it with Barry. Before they leave the team finds out that Joey, his victims and Bronwen were all cell mates. After successfully using the tech to close the breach, Barry gets a call from Iris who has gone to the races along with Joe in hopes of talking to Wally. During the race, Tar Pit attacks and flips the cars, one of which Wally is in. Barry is able to save Wally, but is unable to catch a piece of glass which hits Iris. Barry rushes her to the hospital where she stabilizes. Wally shows up and tries to apologize to Iris, but walks out before he does. Joe tells him that they are family and that they care about him. When he gets a call from Barry, Wally tells him to go ahead while he stays with Iris. Barry tells the team that he is feeling slower and a guilty Harry confesses to them that he did it, showing them the tech. Joe walks in hearing Harry and locks him in the particle accelerator after beating him. Using the nitrous bombs Cisco and Harry created, Barry is able to stop Tar Pit with Joe's help. Barry convinces the team to help Harry instead of turning him away, stating that they would all do everything for those they care about. They release Harry and Barry tells him that he they will help him rescue his daughter. He tells Harry and the team that they are going to Earth 2.
Although he was really just our villain of the week, the show did a good job showcasing his abilities. He even had another form that looked pretty awesome for the little time that we saw it. Barry definitely brought the moves despite his speed being siphoned. Check out these notable scenes.
Joseph Monteleone/Tar Pit: After being turned on by his former accomplices and left for dead, Joey was merged with the contents from a vat of tar during the particle accelerator. Tar Pit’s body is made of molten asphalt and burns on touch. He is able to trap people in the substance of his body and can hurl flaming chunks of tar at his enemies. Due to his body being made of tar, he is practically invulnerable. He is shown to be able to morph into a large being resembling Clayface.A pretty tragic villain and definitely one of the cool looking ones.
Team Flash- Aside from catching their baddie of the week, the team seemed a little bit focused on various things this episode. They really only came together at the end when they were deciding what to do with Harry. We get a pretty epic speech by Barry who decides not to turn his back on him and reminds everyone that they are a team regardless of what Harry did.
Barry and Harry- They haven't really worked together since Harry arrived in Earth 1 and seeing them together was like watching them from the first season. Except Harry is a lot more of a downer. Despite the fact he snapped at Barry and basically revealed that he had stabbed him in the back, Barry was like don't sweat it bro. I get it. Let's go save your daughter.
Barry and Joe- Whenever Joe is feeling like he's the worst father in the world, he has Barry right there telling him that he's not. It funny that his adopted son treats him better than his actual kids. Joe for dad of the year.
Barry and Cisco- It's been a bit since these two have really had any broments. Cisco showed off his cool new metahuman app and was very concerned of his friends recent drop in speed.
Barry and Caitlin- She hasn't really been too focused on the team recently, but of course we can count on her to be there whenever Barry needs some help or there is something really wrong.
Harry and Zoom- Zoom is a monster. It was pretty brave of Harry to stand up to such a powerful enemy, but in the end Zoom put him in his place. He really put Harry between a rock and a hard place. He chose to go the right path though and risked his daughter's life to tell the team Zoom's plan.
The Wests- No family is perfect. I think that is why a lot of people can relate to all the relationships in the show. Personally, this is how our family is sometimes. We've got the responsible sibling and the one who is a little reckless. Of course Joe isn't going to choose one side over the other, but he definitely didn't want to lose out on the opportunity to get to know his son. And he also didn't want to upset his daughter. That's why it's good that he has Barry.
Joe and Wally- So he's a cop and he just lets his son participate in illegal street races so that he can gain his trust. We can kind of understand that, especially with Francine gone. He really did try hard to reach out to Wally and that heart to heart they had towards the end was great. Wally finally listened and heard his father say that he cares about him and that they are family.
Joe and Iris- We had no problems with Iris up until tonight. She has no idea what her father has had to go through with Wally coming into their lives. Why was she trying to tell her father how to be a dad? Come on, there's a reason why he was acting different.
Joe and Harry- Joe was definitely waiting for the perfect time to do that to him. It was pretty harsh of Joe to judge him like that especially since he was letting his son partake in illegal activities just to get close to him. They are very much alike in the fact that they would both do anything for their children.
Iris and Wally- They have just recently gotten to know each other and they are already arguing. They truly are siblings. We understand why Iris treated Wally that way, she cares about him. Not too long ago she was the same way. Not wanting to listen to anybody but herself and that got people hurt. Wally staying with her at the hospital was heartwarming. We then learn why he loves driving cars. The feels.
Hudson's Roofing- In the comics it is a place located in New York and where Professor Stein and Dick Grayson attended the local university. In this DCTV universe it seems to be located near or in Central City.
New 52- Channel 52. Had to fill out quota for the day.
What's To Come/Theories:
Harry is finally on the same page with everyone and next episode the team will be heading to Earth 2. We've been waiting for this moment since this show has started and it's all coming true. Killer Frost and Deathstorm, yes please. Will our heroes save Harry's daughter and make it back to their world alive? Also, Jay is again absent whenever Zoom is around. Hmmm. We are also waiting to see round two of Flash vs Zoom. We all know he will eventually be Kid Flash, but Wally talked a lot about speed this episode, so seeing another speedster added to Team Flash may not be that far away. After months of us begging for Supergirl to become part of the Flash and Arrow universe, it has been confirmed that our Scarlet Speedster will be heading over to National City in March. Nothing yet on what it will be that brings him there, but we've got some ideas.
While Tar Pit served us as our villain of the week, we were able to see the stories of our characters being pushed forward. The Wests are acting like a family, the team is still going strong, and Harry isn't such a bad guy. Just kind of a dick. Barry may not be ready for Zoom yet, but he's finally doing all he can to do so. He will also be speeding into National City to meet with Supergirl in about a month, but we will talk about that in another post! What did you guys think about last night's 'Fast Lane'? Leave it in the comments below we'd love to read them!
