While most of us are still wrapping our heads around the fact that it's 2016 already, production on some of the biggest movies expected for 2017 has already begun.
Thanks to the website My Entertainment World, we've learned which films are starting to shoot principal photography, which in turn indicate when release dates might be for hotly anticipated projects.
Check out some of the biggest ones below.
Avatar 2 will begin shooting in April
Avatar 2 was once again delayed a few years, but we already know how to wait for this franchise. Fortunately, it seems like James Cameron will finally begin production on this sequel starting around April 15 in New Zealand. There's no release date set, but ideally it will premiere around Christmas Day in 2017.
Wolverine 3 will begin production in April
Fox will shoot in New Orleans and New Mexico starting on April 25, putting them on schedule to release Wolverine 3 in theaters on March 3, 2017.
This time around, Hugh Jackman will return for his last ever performance as Wolverine, and Patrick Stewart will be returning as Charles Xavier.
Blade Runner 2 may start production in July
Denis Villeneuve is taking the helm for Ridley Scott's beloved sci-fi universe, and Blade Runner 2 is aiming to begin principal photography in UK and Hungary starting in July. Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford are onboard for the sequel, which will take place decades after the original (fitting, right?).
Fifty Shades Darker will begin shooting this month
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are gearing up to start shooting the steamy sequel in Vancouver sometime this month. With Kim Basinger joining in a key role, they are well on their way to getting another massive Valentine's Day release in 2017.
Alien: Covenant will begin shooting in April
The sequel to Ridley Scott's Prometheus has gone through a few name changes, but it's still on track for its release on October 6, 2017. Alien: Covenant will be part of a prequel trilogy and bring back Michael Fassbender in the brilliant role as the android David. They'll be shooting in Sydney come April.
With sliding schedules like these and the very nature of a creative industry, these dates are always subject to change, but at least now we have a rough estimate of when we'll be seeing our soon-to-be favorite movies!
