In a violent flash of genius, director-writer duo Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner — who made the much-loved movie of American Psycho — are going to bring to life the shocking story of the 1969 Manson Family murders.

The Family will be written by Turner and directed by Harron, Deadline reports, and will provide:

An examination of the infamous Manson Family murders through the eyes of graduate student Karlene Faith as she works with three young, brainwashed women who were part of the cult.

It'll be interesting to see such an accomplished movie team get into the complexities of how so many people could have devoted themselves to a man like Charles Manson...

Karlene Faith's 1971 book, The Long Prison Journey of Leslie van Houten: Life Beyond the Cult will serve as the movie's primary source material. We have no release date as of yet, but with the screenplay completed and casting in progress, The Family is aiming to start shooting in LA this summer.
