2016 is going to be quite the year for fans of the Superhero genre, both for Marvel and DC fanatics. We have 2 HUGE contenders coming out within the year: Marvel's Captain America: Civil War on May 6th, and DC's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25th. Let's not forget the other movies, though!
Deadpool comes out on February 12th (Finally!), X-Men: Apocalypse also comes out in May, on the 27th. The final Marvel movie of this year is Doctor Strange, coming out on November 4th. DC comics is getting another movie this year as well, with Suicide Squad on August 5th. What a stellar lineup! That's not even mentioning the cast for each of the movies.
Civil War has your usual MCU actors and actresses: Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, plus many, many more. Dawn of Justice features many new faces to the DCU, including Ben Affleck as Batman (affectionately referred to by my friends and I as Batfleck.) Henry Cavill returns as Superman, and Gal Gadot makes an appearance as Wonder Woman. Jessee Eisenberg is new as well, portraying Lex Luthor. It would take me quite a long time to name every new face in each of these films.
Which film do you think you will enjoy the most? I've been looking forward to Captain America: Civil War personally, as Civil War was one of my favorite comic book series. Although, if you're a die hard fan of comics, note that the movie does not follow the comics exactly, so changes are to be expected.
Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice is also on my "must see" list, although I'm still questioning how well some of the cast will hold up as their respective rolls. Jessee Eisenberg, while still a great actor, was definitely not my first choice for Lex Luthor. Henry Cavil and Amy Adams have a good connection as Superman and Lois Lane, as we saw in 2013's Man of Steel. The pressure seems to be focused on Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman.
Deadpool has been a movie in the making for years, and Ryan Reynolds seems very devoted to the roll. Some of the humor in the trailers seemed to be random and not situational, just to get a quick laugh in, but the quality is definitely there. Although I did not like his appearance as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, that was most likely due to the movie and not Ryan.
Suicide Squad's cast in another cast that I've been questioning. Margot Robbie is portraying Harley Quinn. I'm hoping to no end that Margot does not attempt to copy Tara Strong's famous high pitched voice, and instead finds her own spin on the role. Granted, I have been staying away from the trailers for Suicide Squad, so that I'm completely surprised when the movie is released.
I haven't seen an X-Men movie in years, probably not since X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That being said, I personally have found it hard to build up any hype for X-Men: Apocalypse. I'm sure it will still be quality, and I've heard good things about X-Men: Days of Future Past, which I should probably get around to seeing.
Last is Doctor Strange, which has the incredible Benedict Cumberbatch. That's literally all I know about it. I haven't heard many people talk about this particular movie or character, but if it's something new to the MCU, I welcome it with arms wide open.
