The road to Wrestlemania is always filled with potholes and it's definitely under construction this year. Unfortunately for wrestling fans, WWE is suffering from several top talent injuries. If you don't remember, here's a quick list of all the current injured wrestling superstars.
- John Cena: Shoulder Injury
- Daniel Bryan: Concussion-related injury
- Hideo Itami: Shoulder injury
- Nikki Bella: Neck injury
- Randy Orton: Dislocated Shoulder
- Seth Rollins: Torn ACL, MCL and meniscus
- Sting: Neck Injury
- Tyson Kidd: Spinal Cord Injury
- Antonio Cesaro: Injured Shoulder
- Sheamus: Arm Injury (there's not much info on this one yet)
- Wade Barrett: (We can just always assume he's injured.)
- Sin Cara: (Once again, always assume he's injured.)
So yeah, that's happening in the WWE and fans are worried about the biggest Wrestlemania of them all. But should fans be worried? Yes, this is a lot of talent to be injured. I weep every Monday night when Seth Rollins and Antonio Cesaro are not to be found in the squared circle being the perfect wrestlers that only they can be.
But, let's be real. Even if these wrestlers weren't injured, we'd still be getting the same old, tired story of Big Daddy Lame, Roman Reigns battling the dumbest villains in television history, The Authority.
Wrestling podcasts and websites have been talking about how much WWE is suffering due to the lack of roster depth because of injuries, but this isn't true. We are living in a world where The Undertaker vs Braun Strowman is being considered for a Wrestlemania match, and no one should be okay with that.
But it's not the lack of a WWE roster. It's due to the lack of WWE creative. WWE has talent, and we can't forget that we have an entire roster of NXT superstars that are ready for the main roster, that's what NXT is there for. WWE has some of the best wrestlers working for their company, and their being benched during WWE's Superbowl. It's pretty much like saying I would much rather watch reruns of Celebrity Boxing instead of watching Game of Thrones.
Just think about it. WWE currently has AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayne, Finn Balor, Tyler Breeze, Neville, Dean Ambrose, Sasha Banks, Cody Rhodes, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Bayley, The New Day, Asuka, Baron Corbin, Chad Gable, Jason Jordan, and Brock Lesnar currently working for them, and we're seriously considering watching Triple H vs Roman Reigns and The Undertaker vs Braun Strowman. Wrestling can be so good when it's firing on all cylinders, but the WWE has lost focus on what that is. It's a wrestling company first and the entertainment comes from great wrestling. Somewhere along the way it became an entertainment company first, but it's not good at being entertaining without the wrestling.
We are two months away from Wrestlemania. WWE is wanting to have the largest Wrestlemania ever and break their attendance record. Top talent like Cena, Orton, Rollins, Cesaro, and Bryan are not going to be there, and it's really a bummer for fans. But there is so many more wrestlers that deserve a shot at the spotlight, they just need WWE to get behind them.
WWE needs to quit thinking that the brand is the star, and start putting the power back in the wrestler's hands so they can take the company to the next level and make wrestling a hot product for television again.
