Being a nerd used to be something people picked on you for. Now it seems like many people are calling themselves geeky just to seem cool and fit it.
Go nerds! It's absolutely your time to shine. Below is a list of celebrities who are totally nerding out, therefore making them absolutely too cool for school - or should I say, too cool at school.
1. Rashida Jones
Rashida was - and is - a bit of a nerd. She claims:
"I never drank, I never smoked, I never smoked weed. I was president of the varsity club and was on the math team and then student government. I was in every activity."
Now the brainy lady is writing comic books and is involved in the new Toy Story movie.
2. Nicolas Cage
Cage explains that in his teens, he was a quiet nerdy guy who was obsessed with comic books. He even changed his real last name from Coppola to Cage in honor of Luke Cage the Power Man.
His love for comic books has extended into his adulthood, as he owns one of the most expensive comics ever: an untouched copy of Action Comics #1, which was sold at auction for over $2 million. He even named his kid Kal-el!
3. Kanye West
Kanye might have been influenced by the fact that he spent most of his childhood in China, but he is a fan of anime and has been since his school days.
For example, Kanye felt the need to tweet his mad love for Akira. Take that Spirited Away!
4. Jennifer Garner
Garner has no problem admitting that she donned thick black-rimmed glasses (which are totally in fashion now) and even played the saxophone in her school's marching band.
“I was a real nerd. I wasn’t the popular one, I was one of those girls on the edge of the group. I never wore the right clothes and I had a kind of natural geekiness. I was in the school band and I think that has a bit of a stigma at the age of 13. If you’d asked me what I wanted to be, I would have said something like a librarian.”
5. Rosario Dawson
You might be surprised to know that the gorgeous Dawson is a huge Trekkie. This girl can understand and speak Klingon and is almost fluent.
She also created her own comic book series O.C.T: Occult Crimes Taskforce, which is a female-centric Men In Black-like supernatural version.
"Geek to me is a really exclusive, really particular type of club, and it's been really nice to be included. To be called a geek so much lately has been kind of fascinating. I've always wanted to be a geek."
6. Vin Diesel
He might seem like a tough guy (I mean, have you seen those muscles?) but Vin has a surprising geeky side to him. He plays Dungeons & Dragons, and has even convince costars like Dame Judi Dench to join him.
His player is named Melkor (inspired by the Tolkien character), and he is a huge comic book nerd. And he is also into video games. He has his own development studio called Tigon Studios and makes video games that correlate to the films he does (an example would be Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay) as he wants to make sure the games matching his movies are incredible.
7. Natalie Portman
Portman pulled an absolute Hermione move. First off she is a bonafide genius (she graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA, went to freakin' Harvard, and even competed in the Intel Science Talent Search semifinals.)
She's authored scientific papers and the geekiest stunt she's ever pulled is skipping The Phantom Menace premiered so she could study for her high school finals.
So get your dork on, let your nerd flag fly, and don't be shy. Smart is sexy, so just talk nerdy to me.
