Last year horror fans were dismayed to hear that Silent Hills — a nerve-shredding survival game designed by auspicious collaborators Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro — was canceled.
Gamers will likely remember their scarring experience with P.T. (short for 'Playable Teaser'); a demo for Silent Hills that still haunts my dreams. In it, this traumatizing apparition named (innocently enough) Lisa attacked anyone brave enough to pick up a controller:
The short but oh so sweet teaser proved that this creative duo is capable of producing a truly unforgettable experience, if only given the time and budget to realize their vision. Fortunately, they might well get a second chance.
Though nothing has been officially confirmed, del Toro and Kojima will be collaborating once again in a talk at the DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit later this month.
In a session titled “A Conversation with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro,” the twosome will discuss their artistic processes and perhaps drop some hints regarding any future interactive projects. At least, we can hope.
The DICE website offers the following description:
These master storytellers will offer insight into their creative vision and the driving forces behind their artistic pursuits. Moderated by longtime video game host and producer Geoff Keighley, this conversation will revisit some of their fondest memories from their own individual careers as well as some of the pivotal moments from each other’s work that remain a constant source of inspiration.
Further fanning the flames of speculation, Kojima posted this cryptic photo on Twitter, including his new video game production company's logo alongside Del Toro's name.
What can it all mean? Only good things I suspect...
