Today The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the three-time Emmy-winning actor Tony Shalhoub will be returning to television to work on a new CBS comedy-thriller entitled BrainDead, and we couldn't be more excited.

According to THR, BrainDead will be about a fresh, new Capitol Hill hire named Laurel (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), who heads to Washington, D.C. for her first job in the big city. However, her employee orientation is somewhat disturbed after realizing that the government has shut down entirely, but that's far from her first issue. In bigger news, aliens have landed on Earth and are busy devouring the brains of congressmen and Hill staffers.

Tony Shalhoub is set to play Red Wheatus, "a hard-drinking, fun-loving Republican senator who has spent decades on the Hill making deals. However, a total transformation turns him into a health-conscious extremist who would rather ruin the government than compromise."

A health-conscious extremist, you say? It sounds like Shalhoub could be back to something like the neurotic, eccentric kind of role that we all love him in! After Monk, Shalhoub has worked on the shows We Are Men and Nurse Jackie, but this will be his first series regular role since 2009.

BrainDead will also feature actors Aaron Tveit (Grease: Live, Les Misérables), Nikki M. James (The Good Wife), Johnny Ray Gill (Rectify), and Danny Pino (Law & Order: SVU).

BrainDead is set to air on CBS this summer.
