FX's Legion, their upcoming X-Men series, just got a bit more interesting. Screen Crush is reporting that Showrunner Noah Hawley, who has been quiet about the show recently, has just announced three huge castings for the show.
Dan Stevens is David Haller, Professor X's Son
Dan Stevens is famous from Downtown Abbey. He will also play Beast opposite Emma Watson in Disney's upcoming Beauty and The Beast. In the meantime, he will take on the role of David, "a haunted man, trying to find his way back to sanity, but tired and about to give up until he meets the girl of his dreams."
Whether or not he is actually the son of Professor X in the series, he is a mutant that is dealing with schizophrenia and psychiatric incarceration.
Aubrey Plaza is Lenny
Plaza is most known for her comedic work, such as Parks and Recreation. However, if you have seen Safety Not Guaranteed, you know she can act. Lenny is David's friend that also happens to be an alcoholic and drug abuser. She is described as someone who “knows that any day now her life is going to turn around — which gives Lenny the likeable energy of the impossible optimist despite her rough demeanor.”
It should be fun to see Plaza in a comic book adaption. Especially if she has powers.
Jean Smart is Melanie
Jean Smart recently was in Fargo, an awesome show. Her character, Melanie can be called a " “a nurturing, demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods."
She joins Rachael Keller, who was announced previously. Keller plays Syd, who is “self-sufficient and street smart.” Screen Crush goes further:
Syd uses her sharp and prickly demeanor to protect her soft core, because even though it makes her a sucker and puts her at risk, she still believes in happily ever after.
