Ignoring the awful pun in the title of this article, Once Upon a Time is getting a visit from the god of Hell himself. The Greek lord of the underworld, the one, the only, James Woods... wait, I mean, Hades.
When the series returns, we'll see the gang heading to hell in the 100th episode where they'll be greeted by Greg Germann, who will be playing OUAT's interpretation of Disney's version of Hades (that was a mouthful - These multi-lore characters really make things fun).
The character appeared in Hercules, voiced by James Woods in the 1997 Disney animated film. EW revealed Germann's look in a recently released photo, including the signature blue flames atop his head, and that classic Greg Germann grin, they also managed to grab a quick quote from the man himself,
"Anything goes, the creators bring him to life on the page with the same out-of-the-box unpredictability that they bring to the rest of the show. They strike the perfect balance between keeping things grounded and letting things fly — sometimes literally."
Going into the underworld means they'll also see some characters who've tested our valiant heroes resolve in the past, including Cora, Cruelle de Vil, and Peter Pan, played by Robbie Kay fresh off his run of Heroes Reborn.
EW even managed to grab a little insight into Hades's role from the show's executive producer, Edward Kitsis:
“Hades is a very dangerous fellow, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun being the Devil.”
And even teased briefly of the journey to hell itself:
“When you go to a place that’s surrounded by death and you think you can get out, maybe that’s not so easy.”
The producer's ominous message may be a sign that the show's days of hopeful quests and happy endings may be over, and I'm probably not alone in thinking, not everyone will make it out alive. Especially with the villains of days gone by returning to make sure our heroes don't rescue fan-favorite, Hook, too easily.
Once Upon a Time returns Sunday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
