From Deadpool to Batman v. Superman this year is full of legendary superhero movies. This year might as well be called the year of the superhero. Overall, I'm excited for all of them but some most definitely rise above the others from just seeing the trailers, plots, and cast lists. So without further ado here are the new SUPER awesome movies of 2016 rated for your enjoyment!
6. X-Men: Apocalypse
Release: May 27, 2016
Directors: Bryan Singer
Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Sophie Turner, Oscar Isaac, Olivia Munn, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Nicholas Hoult, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, Rose Byrne, Lana Condor
Description: With the emerging threat of the world's first mutant, Apocalypse, the X-Men to defeat him and his plan of human extinction.
Reason: The reason why X-Men Apocalypse is put in spot number six is due to the fact that I personally am expecting the same basic story line the other movies have delivered. I am kinda hoping they take a fresh look at the X-Men and with this new villain introduce a new era of superheros into the Marvel Universe. Until then I am not very impressed with what the trailer offers, but I definitely hope they prove me wrong.
5. Batman v. Superman
Release: March 25, 2016
Directors: Zach Snyder
Cast: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jason Momoa, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy, and Jeremy Irons
Description: In fear that the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on Superman, while the world wrestles with what kind of hero it wants. While Batman and Superman face off, a new threat, Doomsday, is created by Lex Luthor. When it comes down to it Batman and Superman must let go of their differences and teams up with Wonder woman to try and defeat Lex Luthor and Doomsday from destroying Metropolis.
Reason: Batman v. Superman lands in spot number five not due to the actors, who are extremely talented, but the uncertain story line which keeps shifting. DC has a great line up of superheros for this movie some new to the big screen and can hold their own in a movie but the story line seems a bit unsure of its self still. Yet still I hope the movie turns out well but in comparison to other movies on this list it is in some ways not on the same level.
4. Captain America: Civil War
Release: May 6, 2016
Directors: Joe Russo and Anthony Russo
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Bruhl, Paul Rudd, Martin Freeman, Paul Bettany, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, and Leslie Bibb
Description: When political issues interfere in the Avengers' activities it forms a rift in between Captain America and Iron Man.
Reason: This was a difficult decision but Captain America: Civil War, when compared to the movies ahead of it, most likely will not be as funny or take as many risks or grant us a new story. When you compare it to Deadpool or Suicide Squad this movie seems to play on the more safe side of things but still I will definitely be seeing this movie as soon as it comes out because the movie seems to be taking a new direction based off the trailer but you can not really judge till you see it .
Release: February 12, 2016
Directors: Tim Miller
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein, Briana Hildebrand, and T.J. Miller
Description: A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopting the alter ego Deadpool.
Reason: This was a difficult choice to make but the reason why Deadpool landed in the number three spot is because Marvel seems to be playing a little out of its league with this one because this is their first rated R movie and that may turn away some people (like the younger audience they have gained through the Avengers and other movies). Although this statement is basically true, Marvel still is respecting Deadpool's origins and is creating a movie which will definitely appeal to an older audience and I believe this movie will be an extremely successful one still providing that they go all in with this one.
2. Doctor Strange
Release: November 4, 2016
Directors: Scott Derrickson
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benedict Wong
Description: After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but conceited surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the Earth against the evil forces.
Reason: Doctor Strange ended up in second place for one reason and one reason only and that is because I did not want to have a tied place for first. I believe Marvel will definitely respect this characters origins just based off this picture and will successfully create the bridge to the more mystic part of Marvel. This movie along with Deadpool will give Marvel a new breath of life and bring in a multitude of new fans.
1. Suicide Squad
Release: August 5, 2016
Directors: David Ayer
Cast: Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye- Agbaje, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach, Jim Parrack, Scott Eastwood, Ike Barinholtz, Karen Fukuhara, and Viola Davis
Description: A secret government organization recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency.
Reason: Suicide Squad will just be amazing (hence that's why its #1)! Suicide Squad will bring that thing everyone's been looking for into the superhero universe. This will be the first movie having the villains as the heroes who are in it for the clemency and have multiple underhanded goals in the partnership they are all forced into. They have no motives of being good and that will provide us with an interesting story line. On top of all this the character diversity within the group can not be compared to any other group that has ever been in the movies. I believe that this movie will put DC on the map officially.
