Disney screenwriter Daniel Gerson passed away over the weekend after battling brain cancer for some time, his family has announced. He was 49 years old.

Gerson will be most well known for his co-writing the 2001 Disney film Monsters, Inc. alongside frequent collaborators Robert L. Baird and Dan Scanlon. Gerson and Baird also co-wrote the Academy Award-winning 2014 film Big Hero 6, along with Jordan Roberts. Gerson was working on Cars 3 at the time of his death.

Aside from his work writing, Gerson also lent his voice to minor characters in Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University, as well as to the desk Sergeant in Big Hero 6.

Gerson also worked as a writer on the films Curious George, Chicken Little, Cars and Meet The Robinsons, and on TV shows Big Wolf On Campus, Misguided Angels, Something So Right, and The New Addams Family.

Gerson is survived by his wife of 20 years, Beau Stacom and his two children Claire and Asher. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
