Are we in the golden age of superheroes or what? With six big superhero titles being released in 2016, it looks like this can be a great year for both geeks and nerds!

But while we wait for the epic fight of Batman vs Superman and the merc with a mouth for a big screen, let's take time to appreciate the heroes we have on are small screen. Both Marvel and DC has been feeding our hunger for superheroes by giving some great shows on TV and some of these shows created or will continue to create an expanding universe.

So let's take to appreciate these heroes who come on your small screen every week. On this list we will be looking at all the current superhero themed shows that air so don't expect Smallville or the 90s Flash on the list and this list will not include any animated series. Now we can begin!

Some may say that Arrow was what started all these other superheroes themed shows. It currently has the title of being the longest running series out of the shows that are currently airing.

Arrow had me as a fan from day one, but with the more recent seasons, I haven't always like some directions the show headed in but with it having four running seasons a change was needed.

The show continues to expand from the story starting as a rich playboy being lost at sea and coming back after five years from a hellish island to society as a vigilante, but now we explore Oliver working in a team alongside others like Black Canary, Speedy and sometimes the Flash and others.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Like Arrow, Agents of SHIELD continues to expand the possibilities of the show. Its main premise is that it started out as members of SHIELD taking on missions, but of course the missions lead to one big story.

Now in current seasons we see the show play with inhumans, which will make a connection to the MCU. The show also has a crossover planned that will have the following title, Marvel's Most Wanted. It will feature two known characters that currently appear on Agents of SHIELD.

FOX's Gotham has been a hit in the current season 2. I think many of us can agree that the first season wasn't exactly a great season as it lacked that quality writing which the second season has.

Gotham shows the origin of the well known, vigilante named Batman as well as some of his foe's origins. The show is from James Gordans point of view showing how corrupted Gotham becomes. The show doesn't return until the 29th of February.

The Flash

If you are not watching The Flash where have you been? I would recommend to quickly speed your way through the first season before there's too many in episodes in season two for you to catch up with.

The Flash is great and I have nothing but praise for it. You can say it started as a crossover show from Arrow but when you look at it now it really has become its own thing. With the show following one of the most iconic comic book character, The Flash, it was always questioned will the show do justice for one of the most loved superhero of all time.

With a smiling face I can say yes, it has! The Flash, follows Barry Allen, who is a forensic scientist for the central city police, but an accident causes him to be struck by lightning and go on to be the scarlet speedster know as Flash. He uses his abilities to fight crime and find other metahumans.

Agent Carter

If you're not a fan of [Marvel's Agent Carter](tag:1119765), we can't be friends. Agent Carter first premiered in 2015 with only six episodes. The seasons were short and snappy keeping the story bold.

The first season was primarily about Howard Stark being accused of treason and he then asks Peggy to get his name cleared. Season 2 is about Peggy and Jarvis traveling from New York City to Los Angeles for an assignment, but I'll let you watch it to find out what it is.

It's a stylish packed drama with a female lead that gives a real cinematic television experience. You may be thinking I'm going a bit too far, but Agent Carter will not fail to entertain you. Season 2 is currently airing and I would recommend for you quickly binge the first season and join the hype train!

Before I start talking about Daredevil, I'm just going to say if you have not seen the series yet I suggest you open up Netflix and enjoy yourself with thirteen hours of quality television.

I loved Daredevil and so should you! It's the perfect mix of dark and gritty and really does the character justice. Most people weren't a fan of Ben Afflecks, Daredevil and from what I've seen it was pretty much everyone that wasn't a fan but I definitely was. I grew up with the director's cut of Ben Afflecks take on Daredevil and I absolutely loved it but again, most people weren't a fan so this show really did do it justice.

It refreshed everyone's mind on how awesome Daredevil actually is and many started to consider him as a really cool superhero because the guy is a blind vigilante, if that's not impressive, I don't know what is.

The story follows Matthew Murdock, who was blinded in an accident as a child and later on becomes a lawyer and a masked vigilante at night. The series is a Netflix original and only has one season. Its second season will be released on March the 18th, 2016. The season will feature iconic comic book characters like, The Punisher, Elektra, etc. The new trailer was released recently which you can watch below!

Ok, so I was never really a fan of the comic book character Supergirl and when I found out they were making a show of her I was a bit on the fence about because Superman already exists in the DCEU so I was unsure on how it would work. Also, I was hoping the lead would rather be a character like Stargirl, Zatanna, Raven and others.

But it was being created by the producer, Greg Berlanti and many of us are familiar with his work on Arrow and The Flash. So I watched the first episode and with me enjoying it so much, I carried on and all I can say it's brilliant.

I really don't understand the hate this show receives, is because they can't handle a strong female lead or the fact that the show can be corny at times? The show is pretty corny and cheesy, but I think that's the elements that really creates the show overall.

Supergirl will be crossing over with The Flash in episode 18 titled Worlds Finest. Here's our first look at the Supergirl and The Flash crossover.

Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones is the newest add to the Netflix universe which eventually create a well known team call Defenders. The following members are, Jessica herself, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Ironfist. Luke Cage and Ironfist are still yet to have their own series.

The show follows Jessica who's a former superhero that decides to reboot her life by becoming a private investigator, but of course there's more to it, you just have to watch to find out yourself.

I wasn't a fan of Jessica Jones, I found it to be too dark and gritty and I understand this is the tone the writers tried to set, but I easily became bored by it because some episodes where slower than ever and other episodes were faster than others. The pace of the story was always changed which I wasn't a fan of but I thought the quality of the acting really stood out. Krysten Ritter and David Tennet were really the breakout stars of this show and they're what kept me watching the show in all honesty.

Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow is the latest spinoff show in the Arrow/Flash universe. The characters range from both Arrow and Flash but some new faces like Hawkgirl, Rip Hunter and many more.

I think once you can get past the corny and cheesy writing it does become an enjoyable show, but it doesn't have me hooked on yet. Bear in mind the series is only thirteen episodes long and I'm struggling to understand what the series is building up to. It also struggles with the cast being overloaded and trying to give every character a part to play in each episode can be a pain.

Legends of Tomorrow focuses on time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter, who has to recruit a rag-tag team of heroes and villains to help prevent an apocalypse that could impact not only Earth, but all of time.

Now fans have a range of action packed shows to choose from that has characters we know and love! Let me in the comments what your favorite show is out of the list or you can just take the short poll down below.
