He's back! Fasten your seat belts for another pulse-pounding joyride alongside one of the best hardcore super-spy characters of the decade!
Matt Damon returns as Jason Bourne for the fifth installment of this epic thriller. With the official trailer dropping during Sunday's Super Bowl 50, and with so little information about the movie that's set to hit theaters this summer, fans are raving about what this film could possibly deliver that we haven't already seen.
It's been almost eight years since Damon last conquered the character of Jason Bourne, and in a world that's constantly changing, what kind of performance is he going to deliver to stay on top of all these new action stars? Along with that question, will this mysterious and unpredictable character be anything like the last we saw of Jason Bourne, in 2007's Bourne Ultimatum?
Matt Damon opened up about the direction of the movie and the new ambitions of his character to Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, saying,
"Well, I don't know how much I should say. [Laughs] We talked a lot about what state he should be in, and where we came to was that if you found him fat and happy and content, you don't really have a movie. So we talked about how at the end of Bourne Ultimatum, he gets his memory back and it kind of completed that journey for him. But does that complete things for the character or not? And the conclusion we came to is no - we find him in a very dark and tortured place. He's living with the same things as he was before, and then he goes to find Julia Stiles' character, who basically says, 'Just because you remember everything, doesn't mean you know everything.' So you find him in a place that's dark and unsolved.
This is the completion of this journey that started in the Bourne Identity. It's part of the first three [movies], it's not a whole new chapter. It feels like the conclusion, even though we're not saying it's the conclusion, it feels like the conclusion of my identity journey. It goes deeper than Ultimatum, basically."
Indeed, Damon has a lot more competition in the genre of action movies and actors than he did back in 2007. With newly released and upcoming action-thrillers like Fast & Furious, [Deadpool](tag:38663) and Batman vs Superman dropping, Matt Damon is definitely going to have to step up his game to insure his title as the most hardcore superhuman of our generation.
Fortunately, Matt Damon and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass both appear to understand how action movies, scenes, and actors have evolved in the entertainment industry and it would seem that they're prepared to kick it up a notch as well! What does that mean? Bigger explosions, faster car chases, and more intense fist fights.
Luckily, Jason Bourne was built to surprise and surpass and whether he's up against an overpowering government or the continuously growing world of entertainment, my money is on him. If I've learned anything from watching Bourne movies, it's to expect the unexpected and never underestimate the abilities of Jason Bourne.
