When it comes down to it, Superman going into a fight against Goku is probably one of the biggest debates in the history of debates. It has been done to death countless times and there are always two sides of the battle. "Superman would beat Goku without even breaking a sweat" or "Goku would kick Superman's butt and call that exercise." In the end, we love them both and it is something that will be debated until the end of time itself. Let's get down to this battle, analyze these great characters and see what people think after this, shall we?

Superman - The Man of Steel

Clark Kent, Kal-El, The Last Son of Krypton, he's called many things, but everybody knows this individual as Superman! Kal El was born on the planet named Krypton, but tragedy struck when the planet was on the very brink of destruction. His mother Lara Lor-Van and father Jor-El built a rocket they could use to save their son. His parents sent him to Earth, where exposure to the yellow sunlight would charge his cells into living solar batteries and gift him with incredible powers. Upon landing, the child was discovered by Jonathan and Martha Kent in Smallville, Kansas. The kindly couple decided they would adopt and raise him, naming him Clark Kent.

Powers and abilities

As a Kryptonian, Kal-El possesses the ability to absorb the solar energy from yellow stars. His Kryptonian body is constantly absorbing and storing energy from Earth's yellow sun (allowing him to retain energy under roofed structures and even at night) which in turn grants him incredible powers, including superhuman strength, enhanced senses, impenetrable skin, and the ability to defy gravity.

His body is also able to absorb the energy of a blue sun, which also grants him increased strength and various other powers (although not to the same degree as under a yellow sun). Superman has also demonstrated the ability to absorb certain other forms of energy, such as the anti-sunlight of Mageddon.

Superman has the ability to physically lift impossibly massive amounts of weight. Superman's strength easily surpasses the Class 100 strength level (this is the ability to lift over 100 tons under normal conditions) which is the ability to lift in excess of 100 tons with absolutely no effort at all, and has no known limit. Superman's strength is aided in lifting/supporting the most massive objects--especially when flying--by the bio-electric force field his body produces.

His strength is usually portrayed the same way as most other characters in the Class 100 tier, but his high-end showings indicate his might may be well in excess of planetary levels. While the limits of Superman's strength vary from writer to writer, he is commonly considered in-universe to be one of the most powerful beings on Earth, with some even considering him to be the most powerful.

Superman has the ability to move and fly incredibly fast. He possesses the ability to achieve speeds faster than light, although this is usually only seen in the vacuum of space as he is known to limit his velocity on Earth to prevent environmental damage. The upper limits of his speed are not quantified, but he is usually considered to be slower than the Flash.

Kal-El is able to see over great distances and perceive even the smallest of objects. This vision also allows him to see through the atomic structure of an object, though he is unable to see through lead.

Superman’s physiology can convert stored solar energy into beams of highly concentrated thermal energy which can reach temperatures comparable to those produced by stars. The two beams of energy which are released from his eyes are bright red in color, but at lower temperatures can be made invisible, allowing him to work undetected.

Superman possesses an immense degree of personal invulnerability, and is able to easily withstand bullets, missiles, bombs and other weapons without a scratch. Those without superhuman strength are more likely to hurt themselves than him by punching Superman. Although hurting Superman with simple physical force is not an easy task, characters with sufficient superhuman strength of their own, such as Mongul, Darkseid, Doomsday and Despero, among others, are able to do so. Powerful energy attacks are also capable of hurting Superman.

Those are just a few to name since he has a vast majority of powers that he has in his arsenal. Over the years, he has learned to harness his powers to an amazing degree where he was able to perform incredible feats.

False Facts about Superman

  • Superman has lifted the book of infinite pages and intelligence.

This would be considered a very unbelievable feat, if it were true. Yes, Superman hasn't lifted the book of infinite pages. Most people consider this to be something he has accomplished, but he did not actually successfully lifted the book. Shazam and Superman decided that they would attempt to lift the book of infinity. It has proven to be beyond anything they've ever experienced in their life, using their combined strength to lift it. This is where people get this feat mistaken since Superman and Shazam didn't even make the book budge, in fact...

it backfired on them
it backfired on them

The fact that Superman and Shazam are the two most powerful guys in that scenario, they could not achieve lifting the book, nor were they able to even make it budge. Even if they were successful, Superman wouldn't have achieved this feat alone. It was still a very interesting goal for them.

  • Superman lifted Eternity

While this does sound impressive and completely unbelievable, it is not true. For those that do not know, eternity is not a measurement of weight, there is no such thing as weighing eternity. Eternity in common parlance is either an infinite or an indeterminately long period of time. Superman is capable of doing insane things, but lifting a measurement of time is not one of them. As the text says, "The Spectre's body, you see, is compomposed of consciousness: A cosmic consciousness that contains Eternity itself. And Heavy." That statement does not mean that Spectre weighs eternity, that statement means that within The Spectre is eternity, there is a void inside of him that goes on and on and on to infinity.

Why Superman could win in a battle against Goku.

Superman literally has so many different powers that seem almost god-like that he could use against Goku that it is a very high advantage against the Saiyan himself. Superman has even greater strength against Goku. Yes, Superman is physically stronger than Goku since he has been capable of lifting things with extreme weight like planets, fight against beings that could destroy an entire city or planet with enough time given, even benchpressing the weight of the earth for days without tiring.

Superman is more than capable of turning the fight into his favor due to him having a higher advantage of strength, raw power, and durability. He is capable of standing up against Goku's attacks and avoiding serious damage done to him and dishing some out in return. Superman is morally fair and merciful, a fight against someone as pure hearted as Goku would have Superman show a fair amount of restraint on his part, but he will still have enough power to give and make this battle end with him as the victor.

Superman is very experienced in fighting as well, maybe not on a level as experienced as Batman or Wonder Woman, but he is very knowledgable in kryptonian martial arts, boxing,

Son Goku - Kakarot

Son Goku, a man on the planet called Earth, but he is not one of Earth. Before he came to Earth, his name was Kakarot who was the son of a low level warrior named Bardock and his wife Gine on Planet Vegeta. Goku is a race called Saiyans, a naturally aggressive race of warriors that were born, raised, and bred to be great warriors. The Saiyans are a fighting race who, since ancient times, have lived a violent and inhumane lifestyle, where they attack numerous planets to build up wealth and goods. Kakarot was to be sent to Earth to destroy its inhabitants for the same reason, but tragedy struck when a mad dictating warlord of the universe named Frieza grew concerned with the potential of the Saiyan race and thought that they would grow strong enough to face him or even become the fabled Super Saiyans, able to defeat him in battle. Frieza then destroyed Planet Vegeta, nearly eradicating the Saiyan race, but Goku was sent off in time to escape its destruction.

After crash-landing on Earth, the baby was found in the woods by an old man named Gohan and became his adopted grandson. He was then given his Earthling name, Goku. At first, Goku was extremely violent and ill-tempered, not obeying Gohan at all, but one day he fell down a deep ravine and hit his head, suffering severe head trauma that sent him into a coma and very nearly killed him and caused him to suffer long-term amnesia. After he woke up, he had lost all of his Saiyan aggression due to not remembering his mission, becoming a kind and mild-mannered young boy. His Grandpa Gohan taught him martial arts and told him about such things as the city and people, as they lived in a very remote place in Mount Paozu, with no communication with other people.

Powers and Abilities

As a Saiyan, Goku possesses all the powers inherent to his race. Saiyans naturally possess exceptional strength, far greater than that of humans and other alien races, and are quintessentially built for fighting. They are capable of easily lifting ten times their own weight (before receiving Master Roshi's training, Goku was already able to lift Bulma's car at the mere age of twelve). If a Saiyan is to survive a near death battle, they will become even stronger than before. Due to their insane levels of strength, they are easily able to destroy mountains, islands, and potentially entire planets just with pure physical strength, especially in the Super Saiyan states.

Saiyans are also abnormally quick learners, able to process large amounts of information within a limited amount of time. This can be seen when Goku was able to use the Kamehameha after seeing it just once and Vegeta taught himself how to sense energy despite being reliant on scouters for most of his career. Goku's head trauma and sheltered childhood left him unenlightened about anything not concerning martial arts, though he gradually outgrows this as his teachers all stressed the values of brains over brawn.

Saiyans also possess a natural affinity to the manipulation of ki energy allowing them to utilize flying and energy-based attacks with incredible ease as well as unlock great depths of power when needed, or lending energy to others in battle when it is actually necessary. Lost energy is regained by the Saiyan in a very short span of time, regardless of the amount of energy lost

The Saiyans also have great speed and agility. They also have much faster reflexes than an average Human; reflexes so fast that they can avoid a bullet without much of a problem. Super speed can easily be seen in their fighting skills; their movements occur in fractions of seconds which are not visible to average Human eyes. Their agility is also substantial in their battles and training. These movements can be improved by training, transformations, and other methods. These natural powers of speed and reflex make nearly all Saiyan hand-to-hand combat very fast. The strongest Saiyans can move so quickly that even King Kai, who can easily track Attack Ball's traveling at Faster-than-Light speeds, can't keep up with them. Gotenks also showed the ability to travel the entire Earth several times over before stopping to take a nap, showing an ability to go faster than light if the situation shows it.

As a Saiyan, Goku also possesses the ability to transform into different forms as well. Each transformation Goku goes through, further increases his already impressive power level including speed, strength, durability, Ki output, and senses. The list of transformations include...

  • Super Saiyan
  • Super Saiyan 2
  • Super Saiyan 3
  • Super Saiyan God
  • Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (or Super Saiyan Blue as some would say)

False facts about Goku.

  • Goku defeated Beerus in a fight.

While Goku gave a very very good fight against Beerus and even surprised him with his fighting skills and abilities, he did not in fact win this fight. Goku as a Super Saiyan God gave Beerus a very good run of his money, landing good punches, fighting against him for a much longer amount of time than any of the others combined, but this was a battle Goku didn't win, even with Beerus using almost 70% of his power. It can be noted that Goku as a Super Saiyan God was able to be almost on par with Beerus who is easily a planet buster and potentially a solar buster. Goku as a Super Saiyan God was able to discover that there was almost no limit to his God Ki, discovering that even at what he thought was his limit, was just the tip of the iceberg, but he did fail to win against Beerus in a fight.

  • Goku has enough power to destroy a universe with his punches alone.

This is something people tend to bring up. Sadly, this is also false. Goku does not possess the power to destroy the universe. The shockwave that was created that was vaporizing planets, shaking the universe, and potentially threatening to wipe out everything in the universe was not because of Goku, but it was because of the raw power of Goku and Beerus punching each other with a very large amount of striking power put into it. While Goku does in fact possess enough power to destroy a planet, he only wields a portion of raw power to destroy a universe. Goku is a more than likely a planet buster, but he's not a universal buster.

Why Goku could win a battle against Superman.

This has been said from many many people over and over and over again. Goku could NEVER beat Superman in a fight, but that would be considered biased or "fanboyism" on a personal opinion. Goku in fact does have the potential to actually beat Superman in a fight and there is one person that can prove that it is possible that even without raw strength or a variety of powers like The Man of steel, Superman can meet a challenge and be given a run for his money and possibly lose.

Like Goku, Wonder Woman is born from a race of warriors, trained from birth, prepared for a fight, and quite powerful even if they are not as powerful as Superman. Wonder Woman was trained to fight, prepared to take on anybody or anything till the day she drops dead from exhaustion or becomes too weak from broken bones and torn muscles. While Wonder Woman is not able to move as fast as Superman can in raw speed or traveling, she is faster than him. Her reactions are trained down to her muscle memory, she is able to fight much more accurate and quicker than Kal-El. Goku, like Wonder Woman, was trained to fight from birth, on top of his inherent abilities as a fighter, it is deep in his muscle memory as well, he has even been trained to read a person's movements without using his eyes, he can sense power levels, he's even trained by some of the greatest martial artists in the world and even gods like Kami, King Kai, and Whis, who is als the teacher of Beerus the Destroyer.

While Wonder Woman is not as strong as Superman physically, she is more than capable of dishing out punches that would shatter cars and destroy buildings, add that to her training as a warrior and she is a very very dangerous person, how is Goku any different? Wonder Woman has proven that even if she is not as strong or as fast as Kryptonians like Superman, Power Girl, or Super Girl, she is more than capable with pure skill, experience, and knowledge on battles, why can't Goku do the same? Goku is a warrior at heart and down to his soul, any kind of fighting will catch his interest, fighting stronger people excites him more than scares him. He is one of the greatest fighters in the Dragon ball universe who was/is also being trained by great fighters, why is it he could never pull off a win over Superman?

Goku, like Superman, has morals that he would never cross. Superman being a beacon of hope and truly caring for others will make sure that Goku does not attempt to bring in any kind of lethal harm to the Kryptonian, let alone any kind of real harm in the first place. Goku loves to fight, but he is not a meat head, he doesn't pick fights for no reason.

The true result of the fight is....

There is no fight! There are no results! Superman is an alien raised on Earth to show humility, passion, love, and kindness to others. Despite having god-like powers, he does not look down on people when they look up to him. He is a kind and caring man that is willing to put himself at risk to help others. Goku is a man that is pure of heart and soul, his dedication to his friends and family are stronger than anything to ever exist. He is a person that is more than willing to help others than to harm. Goku never goes into a fight without a good reason, Superman has no reason to fight back unless there is reason. Goku and Superman are symbols on their own. Superman is a symbol of hope and passion, Goku is a symbol of hard labor and will. Why would they fight each other? It doesn't matter if Goku can beat Superman or if Superman can beat Goku, it doesn't matter if Superman can lobotomize Goku with his heat vision, it doesn't matter if Goku can blow a hole in Superman's chest with a Dragon fist. Goku and Superman would never fight each other, they would become great friends that could arguably be stronger than Batman and Superman.....arguably.

There will never be another like Superman, there will never be another like Goku. These two are irreplaceable.

In the end, Superman and Goku are tied.
