The man, the myth, the legend... the chin!
You probably know Bruce Campbell best as the lovable idiot Ash from the hugely popular Evil Dead movies, and most recently the TV series continuation; Ash vs Evil Dead. I actually wrote an article about what us fans wanted to see in the second season of that show here.
Being a fan of his work, I was extremely curious when this mid-'90s ad appeared on YouTube and I had to watch it!
So what's it all about?
The ad is for the Virginia state lottery and is from around the mid-1990s, apparently it was ripped straight of an old VHS tape. It's only about 30 seconds in length which is about right for a simple TV spot but feels like it's a lot shorter due to its frantic pace.
The ad features Campbell as some sort of 'Head of Projects' who has to test the endurance of this amazing new lottery ticket. He's assisted by Ted Raimi, who's also a well known cult actor who's appeared alongside Campbell in everything from Evil Dead to Xena Princess Warrior.
Also, Campbell has (kind of) admitted in an interview that his pal and Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi directed the ad. Not really all that surprising since the pace and zany use of camera angles used in it are all signatures of Raimi's manic style.
So wanna see it??
It's here in my Review video below:
THINK WE'RE RUNNING A CHEESECAKE FACTORY??
So what did you think to it??
I must have seen this ad over 30 times now, strangely it gets funnier the more I watch it. Would be cool to see if there was a follow-up ad for this but only time shall tell.
All in all, it proves Campbell is compelling in any role no matter how little screen time he's given. I'd recommend watching Ash vs Evil Dead on Starz for more great performances... SERIOUSLY why wouldn't you be watching it??
