When Kara doesn't show up to work, Winn and Jimmy meet with Alex to go and find her. They get to Kara's apartment and find her unconscious with a monstrous plant latched onto her. They rush her to the DEO to find out what it is and how to remove it. Meanwhile, the biggest Solar Storm in history hits the city, which the Astra, Non and the rest of the Kryptonians use as a diversion to carry out their plans. Alex initially thinks that Lord is behind it, but it turns out that he has no idea what is going on. Kara is in a dream like state where she is back on Krypton with her parents. She realizes that it is not real and tries to figure out how she got there. Winn and Jimmy try to cover for Kara when Cat asks about her whereabouts, still upset over the whole ordeal with Adam. Alex asks J'onn to pretend to be Kara for a day so that it does not jeopardize the only normal life she has when she wakes up. Kara is met by Astra in her dream and accuses her of being responsible of what is happening. Her young cousin Kal-El shows up and he along with her family tell her that this is her life. After an unsuccessful attempt in getting help from Alura's hologram, Alex is forced to trust Astra who tells her about the Black Mercy Plant. Alex makes a plan to merge her consciousness with Kara's to pull her out of her dream state. In order to do so they ask Lord to help them as he is the only one with the knowledge of the technology to send her there. Non questions Astra's loyalty after what he confesses that he was responsible for what happened to Kara, but Astra assures him that they will move through with the plan to take over the world. Lord's apparatus works and sends Alex into Kara's consciousness where she finds herself on Krypton. The DEO tries to figure what it is Non is planning to do and they work with Winn who has an idea of what is going on. They realize that the Black Mercy plant and the Solar storm are just diversions. Alex is able to convince Kara to come back to them and that the world needs Supergirl. Alex wakes up first and thinks that J'onn pulled her out when Kara does not wake up. Winn tells them that Kara is okay and she regains consciousness. Angered, she asks who is responsible and Alex tells her it was Non's doing, so Kara goes to confront him. Winn shows the team that he found that the Krytonians were using Lord's servers to set up something called the Myriad. Kara battles Non while J'onn and Alex fight Astra. When Astra gains the upper hand and nearly kills J'onn, Alex kills her to save him. After defeating Non, Kara arrives to see Astra dying. J'onn covers for Alex and tells Kara that he had no choice and was the one who killed her. In the aftermath, Non and his army move on with their plan while Kara goes home to find Alex, Winn and Jimmy waiting for her.
This episode has plenty of action towards the end of it and it's always epic to see J'onn out there in the field with the team. Check out some of these notable scenes.
Kal-El: Son of Jor-El and Lara-El. Kara's little cousin who has grown up on Krypton in Kara's dream. Krypton is still in one piece, so he and Kara didn't become Superman and Supergirl. Hopefully this leads us to finally seeing Superman on the show and not just a silhouette.
Team Supergirl- About time Kara's National City crew joined up with the DEO, it's just the circumstances were pretty messed up. They all worked together to not only save Kara, but also saved her normal life from falling apart. Jimmy had some guts standing up to J'onn but he did it with good intentions. They all wanted to see Alex and Kara come back safely. I guess we can also say that Lord really stepped up to the plate and had a hand in saving the day. It was also super funny to see Winn just waltz in and make a bunch of special agents look like kindergartners by figuring out the Kryptonians plan in a short time.
Kara, Alura, Zor-El and Kal-El- It was just in her dream but she was able to spend time with her family again. It was sad to see them ripped from her a second time. She was super protective of Kal-El and had a hard time realizing that they weren't real.
Kara and Alex- Alex risked her life to save her sister and what does she get. A face full of statue and a life sentence to the Phantom Zone. Sisterly love did prevail though and Kara eventually snapped out of it. However just as one problem goes another one arises. She may have saved her sister, but now Alex has to live with the fact that it was really her who killed Astra, even though J'onn said he did. We wonder what this will do to their relationship if Kara finds out.
Kara and Astra- We really thought that there was still hope for Astra but she made her choice in the end. Of course she realized too late that her heart was no longer in the war. Now Kara really only Clark now as her only family in the Kryptonian side. At least she still has her other family though.
Kara and Non- He is the worst uncle ever. Seeing Kara beat his face in was awesome and he totally deserved it. They both lost Astra so I'm sure their next encounter will be very unpleasant.
J'onn and Alex- He almost lost the two people he promised Jeremy Danvers He would protect. It would have been like losing his own daughters all over again too. Then he made sure that the image Kara had of Alex in her head as being a hero wasn't tainted by taking the blame for Astra's death. That was a very powerful scene. J'onn is more human than most of these other characters in this show.
Winn and Jimmy- These two have gone from being rivals for Kara's affections to bros. They both did everything that they could to bring her back and when Winn began to down himself due to his falling out with Kara, Jimmy told him that things would be okay. Just hug it out already.
Cat and J'onn- A bit of comedic relief in this pretty serious episode. J'onn may not want to admit it, but he likes walking around in those heels. It also seems like even the Martian Manhunter can not handle Cat Grant. He had to take all the heat for Adam's leaving. J'onn's got some serious acting skills though. He even got her crying down.
Astra and Non- At the start of the episode she told him that she was ready to take over the world with him. Up until he told her that he sent a Black Mercy to Kara. She turned his back on him and he didn't even know it. Her death will obviously turn him into an even bigger monster than he already is.
For The Man Who Has Everything/ Black Mercy Plant- This episode seems to be based off the classic Superman story by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Other than Non this was our villain of the week. In our previous post we talked about how the supervillain Mongol used these plans many times against various Justice League Members especially Superman. We are wondering whether or not he is lurking somewhere close by.
Kelex- In the comics Kelex is a service bot used by Jor-El and then later on Kal-El. In the show it is seen in the beginning of this episode tending to Kara in her dream.
Myriad- It was the name of the operation Astra, Non and the Kryptonians were planning to carry out. In the comics, there is a character with the same name who was tied to Superman. Her real name was Sasha Green and she had various abilities such as shapeshifing, mind control and psyche absorption. She was able to turn into whatever person she came in contact with. Each time she took on a new identity she suffered amnesia. It would be very cool to see them use some ideas based on this character.
What's To Come/Theories:
We have a bit of a break until the show returns on February 22, leaving us to anxiously wait for what's to come with the rest of the season. We know that Barry Allen from CW's The Flash will be speeding into National City in episode 18 titled 'World's Finest'. From the bits of information we've been able to find, it's a big possibility that Earth 2 may not be the only world Barry takes a trip to. Here is a more in depth article of what we think will happen. We are still waiting to see when the arrivals of Silver Banshee and Indigo will be. It looks like our big bad Non is going to continue with the "Myriad" and that is obviously bad. Maybe that's when Flash shows up. To add some more fire power to the Supergirl, Martian Manhunter and DEO team. Whatever it is, Greg Berlanti has said that they are going to be producing something that we will all love. The guy hasn't failed us with any of these shows yet!
Last night's 'For The Girl Who Has Everything' brought everyone in Kara's life together on mission to save her. We wish we could have a bit more of Krypton and hopefully this is a segway for us to actually seeing Superman. There were plenty of emotional moments and fight scenes that were actually pretty satisfying to watch. We hope they continue to raise the bar when it comes to the action! This episode gets 9.5 Kryptos out of 10. What did you think about the episode? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
