Unless you were part of the arts, fashion, and literary elite of the late '90s and early 2000s, chances are you're not particularly familiar with the elusive author and mysterious recluse JT LeRoy.
At the time, LeRoy appeared to be a young transgender man with a vagrancy and prostituton-filled past who captured the attention of Hollywood.
In 2005, LeRoy was exposed to be a hoax wrapped in a myth that stemmed from the minds of Laura Albert, the author who wrote under the alias JT LeRoy, and Savannah Knoop, who portrayed LeRoy in public.
A decade after being publicly unmasked as a con, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that James Franco and director Justin Kelly (I Am Michael) will be teaming up to bring the true story of JT LeRoy to light in an illuminating biopic based on Knoop's memoir.
According to Vulture, James Franco is reportedly cast to play Knoop's half-brother and Albert's husband, Geoffrey. In addition to Franco's name being attached to the project, THR also revealed that Kristen Stewart and Helena Bonham Carter are currently in talks to star in the film, likely as Knoop and Albert, respectively.
