The Rockstar North brand recently underwent a change of management. Leslie Benzies, who oversaw the studio's creations for 15 years, left in the middle of January following an extended sabbatical. His career as a producer extended from Grand Theft Auto III all the way up to GTA V. What a legacy.
This change will certainly impact on the future creations to come from Rockstar North in Scotland. What will Red Dead Redemption 2 be like? How will new IPs be created? And what on earth will GTA 6 be like? These are the questions we'll be asking ourselves until the developer reveals their next product. But does Benzies final masterpiece need more content before we start moving on?
Before The Release Date Of GTA 6, Does GTA 5 Need Singleplayer DLC?
The most recent development (if you can call it that) in the search for DLC for GTA 5 brought us to Ned Luke, the voice actor behind the games' Michael De Santa. Luke made the following statement to VG247 when asked about additional content for GTA V:
"EVERYBODY wants single player DLC...I know NOTHING about that. Don't know when it's gonna happen or even IF it's gonna happen."
That's not to say that singleplayer DLC for GTA 5 isn't happening. After all, Rockstar could likely create more content without Michael De Santa in it. However, there's one aspect of GTA 5 that makes the likelihood of Take-Two Interactive commissioning DLC seem unlikely.
Take-Two held its quarterly financial call recently, which is basically a conference where they get to inform the public about all the money they're generating. During this session, they referenced the success of GTA Online:
"[GTA Online had the] best week ever for both revenues and active players during this holiday season. [...] This result exceeded our outlook range of $400 million to $450 million due primarily to stronger than expected revenues from Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
They're making hundreds of millions of dollars off of GTA V and GTA Online. Remarkable. With all of these figures rolling in, it's no wonder that we have yet to see singleplayer DLC for it. But do fans really desire it before we see the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 6?
The prospects of seeing another release from Rockstar North is obviously ridiculously exciting! We all want to see how the developer is going to raise the stakes following the masterpiece that is GTA V! Though I personally need a sequel to Red Dead Redemption before we return to Grand Theft Auto. But what about you guys? Do you feel we need some DLC for GTA 5 before we get GTA 6? Let us know in the comments!
